When President Trump calls CNN “fake news” the liberal media clutches their pearls and says he’s threatening the free press, destroying democracy, and endangering the lives of journalists. Hillary Clinton just called Fox “fake news” in her own Hillary kind of a way and that same liberal media is unconcerned that the free press, democracy, or journalists are threatened. Could it be that there is some sort of double-standard at work here? If calling the press fake news is a threat, shouldn’t that apply to everyone?
Hillary did an interview with The Guardian in which she laid into the American media, which is one of the many things she blames for her 2016 election loss. She had some particularly nasty things to say about Fox News. Hillary accused President Trump of being a fascist authoritarian who destroys fact and creates an “alternate reality.”
“One of the ways you do that is by consistently attacking the press. Now [Trump] doesn’t attack Fox News, because they’re like a wholly owned subsidiary of Trump and the Republican party now. So he attacks the press and the broadcast media that raise questions about him, that don’t give him fidelity and loyalty,” said Hillary.
Of course Hillary is lying about who owns Fox, but we’d all be shocked if she actually said something that was true, wouldn’t we?
“You watch Fox News, it’s always, ‘Something terrible is about to happen’, ‘Something terrible did happen’, ‘These people are doing all these awful things’. It is totally divorced from reality, but it is superb propaganda. I don’t know the best way to puncture that. You have to hope that reality catches up with politics and entertainment at some point,” Hillary said.
Propaganda and divorced from reality? Yeah, she just called Fox News “fake news.” Where’s the outrage from the rest of the media? Considering that Hillary also used the violent imagery of needing to “puncture” Fox to defeat it, the rest of the news world should be horrified. If Trump ever said that CNN needed to be punctured, there would be fainting and hyperventilating in newsrooms across the country.
When Barack Obama was president he too attacked Fox News and the rest of the media never uttered a peep about the threat to a free press or democracy. The thing is, when Trump says “fake news” he’s referring specifically to false stories printed and broadcast be liberal media outlets. CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, and The Washington Post have all had to issue corrections and full-scale retractions of bogus stories about Trump and his administration. Publishing and airing news stories that aren’t true is the very definition of fake news.
Where are the untrue Fox stories? Where are the false reports on Fox? Where are the retracted Fox News pieces. Look all you want, they don’t exist. When Trump calls CNN and the others “fake news” he’s pointing out a fact. When Hillary and Obama call Fox “fake news” they are lying and attacking an independent news source.
What makes this the most “Hillary” thing ever is that she’s accusing Trump of fascism because he calls the liberal media “fake news” by herself calling Fox “fake news.” What makes this the most “fake news” thing ever is that the liberal media, who is outraged by Trump questioning their integrity, doesn’t have any problem with Hillary attacking Fox News.
