Earlier this year President Trump called LeBron James stupid and the left freaked out saying it was racist. Is it still racist if it turns out the NBA superstar really is stupid? Probably, because he’s black and Trump is white, but he really is a whopping moron. In trying to prove his point that the old white NFL team owners are slave-masters, James lodged a complaint that football players are paid to do a job and get fired if they don’t do their jobs. Uh, that’s how employment works and the complete opposite of how slavery works.
James was on the HBO show The Shop, which is like Barbershop only less funny, so it’s probably more like Barbershop 2. I’m just kidding, none of the Barbershop movies are funny.
“In the NFL they got a bunch of old white men owning teams and they got that slave mentality and it’s like, ‘This is my team. You do what the f*ck I tell y’all to do. Or we get rid of y’all,’” said James.
Yeah, that’s how working a non-self-employed job works. The boss tells the employees what to do and if they refuse, they are fired. There are union and government jobs where workers don’t have to be super-productive, but insubordination will get you fired every time.
That’s also not even close to how slavery works. First, slaves aren’t paid for their labor, which is why it’s called slavery and not employment. Not only don’t slaves get paid, they definitely don’t make the millions of dollars a year to play a game like professional athletes do. A second glaring difference between slavery and employment is that slaves don’t get fired for doing a shitty job. Lastly, slaves don’t get to make career choices like where they work or what they do.
James then contrasted the “slave mentality” of the NFL with the freedom of working in the NBA.
“It doesn’t even matter if [NBA commissioner Adam Sliver] agrees with what we are saying, he at least wants to hear us out. As long as we are doing it in a very educational, non-violent way, then he’s absolutely okay with it,” James said.
If Adam Silver only listens to players when they “do it” in an educational, non-violent way I think it’s safe to assume he doesn’t listen to them ever.
This entire rant was in relation to the kneeling during the National Anthem “protests” by NFL players, which makes James even dumber than he seems. The NFL caved to the players and has no official policy against disrespecting the flag and acting like a jackass. The NBA however does have an official policy stating that players must show respect while The Star Spangled Banner is played.
So when President Trump tweets…
