Everything racist that ever happened in this country, (slavery, segregation, genocide, internment, etc…) came at the hands of democrats but they want you to think the real racists are the Republicans who ended all of this crap. Part of this campaign from the democrats to erase their history involves simply pretending they never did anything remotely racist. A democrat from Vermont has his head buried in the sand or up his ass so deep that he just claimed that slavery never happened in the United States.
With the democrats refusing to fund any border security, the government has now been shut down for over a month. Many federal workers have been furloughed, but some essential personnel still has to show up to work without getting a paycheck. In response to his own party’s catastrophe Vermont Rep. Peter Welch sent out this stunning proclamation:

Really? He can’t think of any time in US history when people had to work without getting paid? What about that period between 1776 and 1863 when those democrats in the South could legally own black people and force them to work without paying them anything? It’s weird that Welch never heard of slavery before. It was in all the papers, plus we fought a pretty famous war over it.
It can be argued that the sharecropping that arose after the Civil War was also uncompensated work and again it was those rascally Southern Democrats who were exploiting black people’s labor.
And who can forget the forced labor of prison chain gangs that Southern democrats were so fond of through the mid-20th Century? Prisoners didn’t used to get squat for building roads and working farms.
As a politician, Welch undoubtably has unpaid interns working for him, especially during campaign season. I don’t know how Welch runs things, but Hillary Clinton had tons of unpaid interns for her failed 2016 presidential run and she even stiffed some who were supposed to get paid. It’s 2019 and there are still many instances in which people work without getting paid.
So what Welch meant was, besides slavery, sharecropping, forced prison labor, and the Democratic Party, there’s never been a time when people worked without getting paid. That’s like saying that besides 9/11, Fort Hood, Orlando, and San Bernardino Islamic terrorists have killed very few Americans. Actually, that’s a another thing democrats say in trying to make the case that white people are a bigger threat to this country than radicalized jihadi Muslims.
With this statement Welch is blaming the Republicans for shutting down the government, which is untrue, but he’s also getting at something that’s an even bigger pile of shit. He’s saying that government workers going a couple of weeks without a paycheck is worse than slavery. That would be racist thing if it were said by a conservative, but luckily he’s a liberal and no one will even bat an eye over this.
It’s understandable that Rep. Welch is trying to ignore his party’s ugly racist past. Promoting that they were the ones behind slavery, segregation, Native American genocide, and interning Japanese Americans is hardly the stuff of campaign bumperstickers. I’m kind of surprised he didn’t try to blame these racist things on the Republicans, like they do with all of the other stuff they are responsible for.
