Joe Scarborough: AR-15s Are Deadlier Than M-16s And Must Be Banned

If Joe Scarborough wants to give advice on managing an enormous forehead or banging a coworker he’s more than qualified, but when it comes to guns and the 2nd Amendment he’s as clueless as he is unsettling to look at. The Morning Joe host has stated that semi-automatic AR-15s and far more deadly than full-auto M-16s and even M-14’s. Based on this bogus information he claims that AR-15s are “weapons of war” and can be banned without violating the Constitution.

Here’s a really ignorant mini Tweet-storm from that guy who used to be a conservative Republican Trump ass-kisser:

At least we know that that huge forehead is all for show and not covering up a giant brain. This is so stupid it sounds like it was prepared by Moms Demand Action or Eric “Duke Nukem” Swalwell.

First of all, the AR-15 originally developed by Stoner was a full-auto (select-fire) rifle that fired the 5.56 NATO round and was eventually renamed the M-16 when it was sold to the US military. The AR-15 we know today is the semi-automatic civilian version of the M-16. To say that Stoner’s original design developed for the military is that same thing available to you and I is pure bullshit and yet not even close to the biggest load in this lie.

Besides the trigger group, semi-automatic AR-15s and full-auto M-16s are very similar in design. They use most of the same parts, break down the same way, and both fire a .22 caliber bullet. They’re pretty much the same thing except one is semi-auto and one is full-auto. According to Scarborough, the semi-automatic version of this gun is far more lethal than the full-auto version, which is exactly as dumb as it sounds.

And it gets dumber because Scarborough also claims that semi-automatic AR-15s are deadlier than M-14s. The M-14 fires a .308 round, which is substantially bigger and has more ass behind it than .223 or 5.56. The M-14 is also select-fire which means it can push lead at a target faster than a semi-automatic plinker you can buy at Bass Pro Shops.

The AR-15 is not a “weapon of war” and it’s not anywhere near as lethal as the M-16 or M-14, which brings us to Scarborough’s next piece of idiocy. He claims that the 2nd Amendment doesn’t authorize private ownership of weapons of war and therefore they can be banned. He should try reading the the 2A sometimes, because it really doesn’t say a damn thing about weapons of war, just that the people have the right to keep and bear arms. My interpretation of the 2nd Amendment is that we should have the exact same kind of arms as the military, but for some reason they don’t let me set policy.

Scarborough is also wrong in saying that the DC v. Heller Supreme Court decision doesn’t protect AR-15s from being banned. The late Justice Antonin Scalia wrote that “guns in common use” are in fact protected by the 2nd Amendment. The AR-15 isn’t called “America’s rifle” for no reason. there are millions and millions of these weapons in the hands of Americans and it doesn’t get any more common use than that.

Scarborough claims he’s a gun owner who supports the 2nd Amendment but clearly that’s not true if he thinks we need to ban an entire class of weapons because he doesn’t know what the f*ck he’s talking about. I have no idea what kind of guns this forehead clown owns, but chances are each and everyone one of them was originally designed for military use.
