Most of the 20 or so democrats running for president in 2020 are about the same (socialism, high taxes, gun control) but a few have their own schtick. Eric Swalwell wants to nuke Americans, Cory Booker is a Roman gladiator, and Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke wants you think his white privileged ass is really Hispanic. On top of his culturally appropriated nickname, he wants to tear down all existing barriers between the US and Mexico to have a free flow of third-world scumbags into this country. To further cement himself as the “Hispanic” candidate, he has now compared illegal immigrants to slaves living in bondage.

O’Rourke dropped this bit of insanity at an event recently. Sorry, there’s no shot of the crowd, but based on his other rallies, it’s safe to say only a handful of people heard this:
“Immigration. Millions living in the shadows, working some of the toughest jobs. Lucky to make a minimum wage, some not even making that. Kept in modern day bondage, their immigration status used as leverage to keep them down from fully participating in this country’s success and in our economy,” said O’Rourke.
Okay, so Beto thinks that illegal immigrants, people who are not authorized to be here, are actually slaves, being held in bondage. That easily qualifies as the single dumbest thing any liberal has said about illegal immigration ever.
Slaves from Africa were kidnapped, thrown on ships to the Americas, and sold into bondage where they were kept as property. Illegal immigrants come to America on their own freewill.
Slaves wanted to return to their homeland, while illegal immigrants refuse to leave even though we’d gladly give them free transit home.
Slaves were not compensated for the backbreaking work they were forced to do, while illegal immigrants are paid handsomely and the money they send back to their shithole countries is a major part of the economy of those places.
Besides shitty living conditions and scraps of food, slaves didn’t have much of a benefits package for their forced labor. Illegal immigrants get free health care, free education, free legal help, food stamps, housing subsidies, driver’s licenses, and in-state tuition rates for college.
Slaves were property, not people, and had no freedom or rights. Illegal immigrants have more freedom and rights than American citizens, especially in sanctuary jurisdictions. They are not held accountable for any of the crimes they commit and the ACLU will sue the shit out of anyone who tries to hold them personally responsible for their actions.
Yeah, but besides all of that shit, illegal immigrants are exactly like slaves.
I get that Beto is trying to establish himself as the “Hispanic” candidate, but this comparison is going to cost him dearly with black voters. Descendants of slaves are not going to take kindly to a white hipster doofus equating their suffering and oppression to a bunch of law-breaking, jobs stealing foreigners. You don’t win Jewish votes by suggesting other people have been the victims of genocide and you don’t get black votes by saying illegal immigrants are slaves.
Possibly the most insane thing about O’Rourke’s campaign message is him trying to argue that the biggest problem this country faces is that we don’t have enough uneducated non-English speakers in this country. People care about the economy, jobs, and security. There isn’t one single American voter who thinks everything is great except that we don’t have enough Guatemalans mooching off the system. Bold strategy, Beto.
