The left tried stopping Donald Trump by rigging the 2016 election, pushing a bogus recount, and encouraging an Electoral College revolt. When that didn’t work they sponsored a 25th Amendment coup and pushed impeachment based on the Russian collusion lie. Trump is still the president and liberals have run out of ways to undo the results of a free and fair election but that doesn’t mean they are completely out of ideas. It appears the next big anti-Trump moment is to ban him from being carved into Mount Rushmore. That’ll teach him.
Saturday was the White House Correspondent’s Dinner, which in the past was an occasion for the liberal press to pat themselves on the back for their courage to bullshit the public. In the Age of Trump however, the dinner has taken on even more self-importance because Trump calls them “fake news” when they, you know, publish fake news. To the “journalist” who who have spent the past two and half years lying about the President, this is an attack on free speech and their annual dinner is now pretty much an anti-Trump rally that nobody cares about.
The WHCD this year did away with the traditional comedian host and saw historian Ron Chernow MCing the event, which is exactly as boring as it sounds. Chernow took many jabs at Trump with his humor that was so dry it caused a drought in the event hall. One of the things he said, really resonated with the liberal media and lefties everywhere:
“Campaigns against the press don’t get your face carved into the rocks of Mount Rushmore, for when you chip away at the press, you chip away at our democracy,” said Chenow.
See, Trump has launched a campaign against the press by calling them out for lying and now he’ll never get his face on Mount Rushmore. The thing is, everyone on Mount Rushmore talked mad shit about the press and somehow managed to get their faces up there.
George Washington hated the press so much he retired from politics. In explaining why he wouldn’t seek a third term as president Washington said he was, “disinclined to be longer buffeted in the public prints by a set of infamous scribblers.”
“Nothing can now be believed which is seen in a newspaper. Truth itself becomes suspicious by being put into that polluted vehicle,” said Thomas Jefferson.
“I deplore… the putrid state into which our newspapers have passed and the malignity, the vulgarity, and mendacious spirit of those who write for them… These ordures are rapidly depraving the public taste and lessening its relish for sound food,” Thomas Jefferson said.
That was Thomas Jefferson’s way of saying “fake news” and “CNN sucks” and yet somehow he’s on Mount Rushmore.
“The man who did nothing else (but be a muckraker) was certain to become a force of evil,” said Teddy Roosevelt.
To Roosevelt, a “muckraker” was an investigative journalist, so with this quote he was calling members of the press evil. That’s actually less extreme than Trump calling the New York Times a “failed” newspaper or giving Meet the Press’ Chuck Todd the nickname “Sleepy Eyes.” Again, despite demonizing the press, Teddy Roosevelt is on Mount Rushmore.
Abraham Lincoln actually used the power of the government to censor the press. In the lead-up to the Civil War, opposition (pro-democrat) newspapers were slandering the president, so he banned them from being sent through the US mail, closed newspaper offices, and confiscated printing materials.
“No president ever cracked down on the press more than Abraham Lincoln did,” said historian and scholar Harold Holzer.
That sounds like a campaign against the press and Lincoln managed to get his face carved in Mount Rushmore.
The liberal press is swooning over Chernow’s quote that Trump can’t get on Mount Rushmore because he badmouths the press. Here’s CNN’s Chris Cillizza with a boner right now:
“Campaigns against the press do not get your face carved in Mount Rushmore because when you chip away at the free press you chip away at the heart of democracy.” — Ron Chernow #WHCD2019
— Chris Cillizza (@CillizzaCNN) April 28, 2019
The funny thing is, saying that questioning the press keeps someone off of Mount Rushmore is fake news as all 4 presidents on the monument were against dishonest journalism.
In the absence of any impeachable offenses or ways to remove Trump from office, the liberal Resistances is now reduced the saying that at least Trump can’t get his face carved in stone next to Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Roosevelt. That they have to throw this temper tantrum with a lie is about the saddest thing that’s ever happened.
