It’s still September which means the annual Halloween racism hysteria is getting off to an early start. The NAACP is demanding that a New Jersey man’s Halloween decorations be investigated as a hate crime. Why? Because it was a white dummy hanging from a noose and everyone knows that’s racist against black people. Okay, maybe not everyone, but certainly the NAACP does.
CBS Philly reports that Ryan McDonald of Mannington, NJ was planning an elaborate pirate-themed Halloween display in his front yard. The first step was he built a scaffold and hung a dummy. A white dummy. He never got to finish the project however because someone called the cops on him. I’m not making this up; some person called the police over Halloween decorations and officers treated the call seriously enough to show up at McDonald’s house.
Informed that his display was considered racist by hysterical weirdos, McDonald took the hanging dummy down. He also apologized to the local news:
“It was just something to, you know, set up for Halloween as an actual prop to have fun. And I apologize to anybody that took it in any type of ill-mannered way,” said McDonald. “I can understand why that would be an issue, but we’re not a racist family at all.”
Okay, no harm, no foul, the story should be over, right? Not so fast. The same person who called the police on McDonald also alerted the NAACP. Salem County NAACP President Nelson Carney Jr. was not quite as accepting of the apology.
“Put a scarecrow up on a bale of hay, we don’t care. But if it has a noose around its neck, we don’t care what color. We’re not going to accept it,” said Carney.
We are witnessing the evolution of racism here. It no longer must be a black dummy hung in effigy to be racist against black people, white dummies are just as hateful.
Carney wants this Halloween display investigated as a hate crime and it looks like he got his wish:
Someone spotted it at a home in Mannington, Salem County and now the NAACP is involved and an investigation is underway.
…the NAACP president says the Office of the Attorney General is now investigating the display as a possible hate crime.
If someone were to hang a dummy in the front yard of a black person, that would be a hate crime. Someone hanging a dummy (a white dummy!) in their own front yard as part of Halloween decorations is called “someone decorating their own yard for Halloween.” Who is the actual victim of hate here?
Even if this was a racist display, and it’s clearly not, so what? This is America and the people have the right to express themselves, even in ways that offend others. You can fly a nazi flag, a communist flag, or any other symbol of hate on your own property and it is protected by the 1st Amendment.
The real issue here is that black people have coopted hanging and nooses as racist anti-black symbols. Because democrats used to lycnh black people in the segregated South, somehow blacks think they are the only people to ever have been hanged to death. Nothing could be further from the truth. Hanging was the preferred method of state executions for much of our country’s history and almost everyone put to death by this method was not black.
Hanging is what we did to spies, horse thieves, and murderers. Hanging is still an option for execution in Delaware and Washington state. The last person executed by hanging died in Delaware in 1996. His name was Billy Bailey, he was convicted of killing two people, and he was decidedly not black:

Regular readers of Def-Con News know that I’m a hopeless optimist, so I see a lot of good things in this otherwise silly story. First, since Halloween decorations are the only racism the NAACP can find, that means we truly are in a post-racial society. Second, since black people now think that hanging white people is offensive, it means the racial gap has disappeared and we are one harmonious colorblind country. Kumbaya, mofos!
