Julia Louis-Dreyfus Claims Women Don’t Have Equal Constitutional Rights

According to Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus, women in the U.S. do not have equal Constitutional rights. She can’t actually name any rights in the Constitution that are protected for men but denied to women, mostly because this is a lie, but she has a sure-fire way to fix it. Actually, her fix for this nonexistent problem is a really huge problem but nothing about this is based on reality. She also has a problem with misogyny since her entire argument revolves around the idea that women are not people. Yeah, she’s a mess.

Look out now! Here’s a liberal Hollywood celebrity telling you how to think about politics and stuff:

Damn, she looks crazy.

“Hey, did you know women don’t have equal rights in the U.S. Constitution? Yeah, incredible, isn’t it?” Louis-Dreyfus said.

It would be incredible if it were true, but it’s most definitely not. Lefty kooks like pull this load of crap out every so often and it’s based on their contention that the words “woman” or “women” don’t appear anywhere in the Constitution, so therefore women don’t have rights. All of the rights protected by the Constitution use the word “people” so unless women aren’t people, they have the same rights as men.

The right of the people to keep and bear arms or be secure in their person includes everyone, even women. Louis-Dreyfus’ argument here is that women are not people and that would be outrageous if a male conservative implied it.

This gets dumber because Louis-Dreyfus claims she has a way to fix this thing that ain’t broken.

“But we can fix that by flipping Virginia’s state legislature on November 5. If we flip just 2 seats in each chamber, Virginia can become the 38th and final state to ratified the Equal Rights Amendment,” said Louis-Dreyfus.

I have some bad news for her: this is not something that is remotely possible.

In order to amend the Constitution, it must pass by a two-thirds vote in both the House and Senate and then three-fourths of the states have to ratify it.

The Equal Rights Amendment was passed by the House and Senate in 1972. By 1977 only 35 of the 38 states needed ratified it. Then, 4 states rescinded their ratification, leaving the ERA with only 31 states supporting it. Many years later 2 other states symbolically ratified it, bringing the number up to 33 (maybe) supporting it.

There’s even more issues because upon passing the ERA, congress set March 22, 1979 as the deadline for states to ratify the Amendment. That obviously didn’t happen so they extended the deadline to June 20, 1982. Again this didn’t happen and no further extensions have been issued.

Even if Virginia were to flip blue and ratify the ERA, that would still leave the amendment 4 states shy, plus it’s a dead issue since the deadline for ratification passed 37 years ago.

Plus there’s that whole thing about how the ERA is redundant since it doesn’t protect any rights that aren’t already covered by the rest of the Constitution.

Instead of trying to flip the state legislature from red to blue to ratify a dead amendment, the people of Virginia should consider flipping the governor’s mansion from “blackface” to “not racist” so they don’t look like a bunch KKK-sympathizing rednecks.

Also, Julia Louis-Dreyfus should look into flipping her switch from low-information political activist to moderately famous entertainer. For some reason normal Americans don’t like Hollywood celebrities telling them how to think and vote.
