Elijah Cummings’ Widow Could Take Over His Open House Seat

While the Resistance pays their respects to the dearly departed Rep. Elijah Cummings this week, there is already a frontrunner for his vacated congressional seat.

The leader is the career politician’s widow Maya Rockeymoore who despite being dogged by controversy over a charity that she founded and ethical issues, is the sentimental favorite and would be a slam dunk.

The 68-year-old chairman of the House Oversight Committee and top impeachment lieutenant of Nancy Pelosi unexpectedly died last week and temporarily slowed the rush to lynch President Trump on bogus charges.

With Cummings’ body being afforded the rare ceremonial honor of lying in state in the U.S. Capitol, Dems need to be sure to maintain control over his longtime district in the Baltimore area.

That would be the same territory that Trump was savaged for this summer when he correctly pointed out that swaths of it were rat and rodent-infested, not to mention the squalor and crime.

Maya Rockeymoore, the widow of Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., and chairwoman of the Maryland Democratic Party, is expected to run for her late husband’s House seat, according to a report.

Rockeymoore has not yet said whether she plans to run, The Washington Examiner reported.

The Maryland Democratic Party released a statement that Rockeymoore would not be making announcements while she grieves.

“We ask the public and the press to allow Maryland Democratic Party Chair Dr. Maya Rockeymoore Cummings — and the rest of the Cummings family — time and space to grieve their loss,” the party said.

Rockeymoore, 48, has previously worked for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, served as chief of staff to former U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., and was a staffer on the House Ways and Means Committee. She also ran for governor in Maryland but dropped out when Cummings was hospitalized in 2018.

Rockeymoore’s nonprofit group received over $6.2 million in grants between 2013 and 2016 from special interest groups and corporations. Several of the nonprofit group’s financial backers, which included Google, J.P. Morgan, and Prudential, have business interests before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Cummings has served as Democratic chairman of the committee since January and previously served as ranking member.

The National Legal and Policy Center, a government watchdog group that has been investigating Rockeymoore’s foundation and for-profit consulting company, filed a complaint with the IRS in May detailing evidence of potential self-dealing at the charity. According to the complaint, Global Policy Solutions and the Center for Global Policy Solutions appeared to have overlapping operations, and the arrangement may have been used to derive “illegal private benefit.” The complaint asked the IRS to investigate the “shared leadership,” “integrated operations,” and “shared address and physical facilities” of her two companies.

Rockeymoore’s charity also paid over $250,000 in management fees to her for-profit consulting firm between 2013 and 2015, according to audited financial reports for the foundation published by the Daily Caller last month. IRS law prohibits insiders at nonprofit groups from self-dealing, or using foundation money for their own personal financial benefit.

Much like organized crime families, the Democrats like to keep power under family control although unlike the Mafia, the now thoroughly corrupt political party does not possess a code of honor.

Look for Rockeymoore to be an easy replacement and any who dare to ask serious questions about her ethics to be smeared as racists because that’s the way that the left rolls.
