There is an old Chinese proverb that 2020 Democrats may be wise to consider as the Senate trial of President Trump is coming up fast.
That would “be careful of what you wish for, you just might get it” and five Dem members of the U.S. Senate are about to get it in spades.
With Speaker Nancy Pelosi expected to deliver formal articles of impeachment just in time for Christmas, the handoff between the two bodies of Congress will take place and the trial phase of the coup against Trump will commence.
But that timing is not going to be beneficial for Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker and Amy Klobuchar whose obligations to the Senate could seriously handicap their White House runs.
The trail would likely take place in January and could run for up to six weeks which would swallow their campaigns from just before the Iowa caucuses all the way through Super Tuesday.
It is the most delicious bit of irony in that they ALL have demanded that Trump be impeached and removed from the contest out of fear that they would have to face off against a powerful and resilient incumbent.

Via The Hill, “Impeachment trial throws curveball into 2020 race”:
The Senate impeachment trial is threatening to ground several White House hopefuls during a crucial stretch of the 2020 primary race.
With a Senate trial likely to start as early as January, it would put a proceeding in the immediate run-up to — and potentially in the middle of — the early voting states.
The dynamic has Democrats in a bind: Keeping several contenders largely stuck in Washington could be a boost to candidates who are not lawmakers, such as former Vice President Joe Biden and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg.
But senators running for president will also get a front-row, albeit silent, seat to the biggest story in Washington.
“There’s not a lot they can do about it,” said Jim Manley, a longtime aide for former Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.). “For those in the Senate, it is what it is. They’re going to have to figure out how to deal with it.”
And even Joe Biden may be affected if Trump’s defense team is able to get him on the witness stand for crucial testimony on corruption in Ukraine during his tenure as vice president.
Considering that shifty Adam Schiff’s impeachment inquiry which featured a cadre of butthurt State Department bureaucrats who oppose Trump’s policies failed to produce evidence of any crimes, the odds of the successful removal of the POTUS are slim to none.
Some on the left are already hysterical over the possibility of the trial with at least one columnist spewing conspiracy theories that it is all a part of Mitch McConnell’s evil plan.
Democrats, don't hand impeachment to Mitch McConnell https://t.co/0G0ok1y69h

Via The Week, “Democrats, don’t hand impeachment to Mitch McConnell”:
…if Democrats vote on articles of impeachment sometime in the next few weeks, they are essentially turning over the denouement of this saga to McConnell and his Republican vassals in the Senate.
They are already salivating over the possibility of tying up leading Democratic contenders for president in weeks of mandatory-attendance trial proceedings, effectively granting McConnell, our premier procedural manipulator, the opportunity to kneecap multiple potential 2020 opponents including Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vermont), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (Minn.), possibly through Super Tuesday or beyond if Kentucky’s makeshift Machiavelli wishes it to be so.
The better path for the party would be to continue holding impeachment hearings indefinitely, while they await court rulings about the testimony of Mulvaney, Bolton, and others. Hold an impeachment hearing a week from now until next October, and pass a dozen or more articles of impeachment just before the election so McConnell never has a chance to run interference for the president.
Tinfoil hatters are getting jittery over the trial mere weeks after they were demanding that Pelosi ramrod it through as soon as possible but now that Trump himself has come out in support of a Senate trial, it is dawning on the Resistance that they have made a monumental strategic blunder.
And it could cost them dearly in the primaries…
