Considering the fates of other women kidnapped by crazy black dudes, a Michigan woman probably got off easy. In what will certainly become a classic Black History Month moment, a black man kidnapped a woman and forced her to watch the Roots miniseries in its entirety under threat of death and dismemberment. It was probably a close call, but the woman chose to watch Kunta Kinte’s 9-hour journey and lived to tell about it.
The Gazette reports that 52-year-old Robert Lee Noye has been arrested and charged with first-degree harassment and false imprisonment. According to a criminal complaint, a woman claims that Noye forced her to sit with him and watch all 9 boring hours of Roots. The reason he did this was “so she could better understand her racism.”
When she tried to move, Noye told her to “remain seated and watch the movie with him or he would kill her and spread her body parts across Interstate 380 on the way to Chicago,” the complaint said.
Netflix and chill is now Netflix or kill.
This one of the more insane stories I’ve come across and there’s so many questions I have but unfortunately the reporting is pretty thin. Was the woman white? The news doesn’t say, but let’s assume she is.
What was this woman’s relation to Noye? Why was she in his apartment? What was the “racism” she had going on that he was trying to correct? Most of all, how could anyone possible stay awake for 9 straight hours watching Roots? Black people can’t even sit through that thing.
And again, what horrifying act of racism did this woman commit to justify this form of torture? Waterboarding would have been more humane.
There is no coverage of this story that doesn’t simply rehash The Gazette’s report, which is a shame. I feel like there’s a bigger story here with details that would make this crazier that a thousand “Florida Man” reports.
I suspect that if a white guy kidnapped a black woman and forced her to watch every Larry the Cable Guy movie to help her better understand her white trash bigotry it would be a huge national news story. There would be outrage, protests, boycotts, and President Trump would get all of the blame. CNN would suspend all programming to stay on the story for weeks.
And yes, I consider Larry the Cable Guy movies the opposite of Roots for some reason that I can’t explain.
This guy should have kidnapped the entire democratic party and forced them to watch Roots to help them better understand what their party has been about since the founding of the country. They probably know they were the ones who owned slaves, forced segregation, and opposed the Civil Rights Act, but they won’t publicly acknowledge it, blaming it all instead on the Republicans who literally freed Kunte Kinte and the other slaves.
I promise to keep you posted on this story if any more information comes out. A black guy kidnapping a white woman and forcing her to watch Roots is already nuts, but I’m sure there’s more to this that will push it over the top.
