Former U.S. Attorney Says Owning A Gun Makes You A Nazi Thug

Almost 2 weeks ago, patriots held a peaceful rally at Michigan’s capitol to demand an end to the state’s draconian coronavirus lockdown. Some of the protesters were open carrying (allowed by state law) and this has caused a complete liberal meltdown that has lasted 12 days, which is astounding because they usually find something new to be outraged over after a day or so. One former U.S. attorney is still flipping out about this and thinks law-abiding people peacefully assembling and exercising their 2nd Amendment rights makes them Nazi thugs.

Harry Litman is a former U.S. attorney, which should mean that he has a firm grasp of the law, but according to a rant he wrote for The Hartford Courant, legally assembling and bearing arms is pure fascist anarchy:

In last week’s disturbing pictures of protesters brandishing assault weapons in and around Michigan’s Capitol, we saw the naked face of the gun rights argument, and it was repulsive. This is not a movement about liberty but anarchy. Only in the United States, and no other civilized democracy, does a supposed right to take up arms against a duly elected government garner a measure of respect from politicians, the courts and the court of public opinion. No tenable reading of the Constitution supports it.

The Michigan protesters had guns, they weren’t using them to overthrow the state government. Even if they were, the 2nd Amendment is pretty clear that the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, so it is the people’s right to oppose government tyranny while armed.

Litman went on to make his stupid point with a series of lies:

A few hundred demonstrators gathered April 30 in Lansing to protest Michigan’s COVID-19 stay-at-home orders. In fairness, the obnoxious ragtag group carrying weapons — and in some cases swastikas, nooses and a Confederate flag — was a minority of a minority.

In all fairness, Michigan’s psycho governor made up the thing about the protesters flashing swastikas, Confederate flags, and nooses. There is no photographic evidence to support this lie.

And several more lies came as Litman tried to blame President Trump, accuse him of being a racist, and label the protesters as Nazis.

The next day, President Donald Trump made no distinctions, replaying his notorious response to the Charlottesville, Va., white nationalist rally in August 2019. “LIBERATE” Michigan, he cheered by tweet, lecturing Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, whose state has been hard hit by the pandemic, to “make a deal” with these “very good people.”

Trump never said Nazi’s were “very fine people.” This lie has been debunked a million times and yet liberals still repeat it. Litman is using this lie to also label the Michigan protesters as Nazis, which as we’ve already covered, is another lie.

Also, Litman claims that the day after the Michigan protest, which was on April 30, President Trump tweeted out “Liberate Michigan.” Trump actually sent that tweet on April 17, almost 2 weeks before. Here’s the proof:

Facts schmacts, Litman hates guns and his outrage is more important than the reality of the United States Constitution:

No sound account of the Second Amendment justifies the protesters’ assault on bedrock principles of democratic rule. They are neither patriots nor “very good people” but base thugs. The proper response of a civilized democracy is to insist they lay down arms or go to jail.

People have the right to assemble. People have the right to bear arms. The Michigan protesters did those 2 things, which are protected by the Bill of Rights, and they did them peacefully. Litman, a man whose job was literally to uphold the law, thinks exercising Constitutional rights makes people Nazi thugs. Thank God he is a former U.S. attorney, because he is a walking Constitutional crisis.
