Las Vegas Apartment Complex Deploys Robot To Fight Crime – And OMG, It’s White

You can hear the howls of outrage already.

Democrats and their ruinous policies have intensified the drive for businesses to turn to automation in order to control costs and maximize efficiency and efforts are extending beyond fast food corporations.

In a sign of the times when police officers are increasingly endangered by the irresponsible rhetoric of Democrat politicians and their Black Lives Matter shocktroops, it is only natural that the leveraging of technology to automate has extended into law enforcement.

With a move that is going to elicit piercing shrieks of racism from the anti-cop activist left, a Las Vegas apartment complex has rolled out a new human-sized robot to patrol the property in an area that is plagued by crime and according to one report, is a leading source of 911 emergency calls.

The robot which is named “Westy” bears a strong resemblance to the R2-D2 droid of Star Wars fame and – GASP – is white in color.

Via The Las Vegas Review-Journal, “Crime-fighting robot patrols Las Vegas apartment complex”:

“Westy” has been patrolling the grounds at the 1,129-unit Liberty Village apartment complex, just outside the southwest corner of Nellis Air Force Base, since October. It is believed to be the first such use of a security robot at a Las Vegas apartment complex.

Officially known as a Knightscope MIN31KS, the human-sized autonomous robot offers a wide variety of security measures including four-camera video recording, facial recognition, license plate reading, verbal warnings, a telephone-like connection with human security officers and a presence that helps deter improper activity.

“It’s been very useful in several ways,” said complex manager Carmen Batiz. “It can advise people when they are out past the 10 p.m. curfew and the four video cameras tend to make people avoid it. When we have vandalism reports we can go through the video and get a time frame of when it happened. It has a button so people can get human help quick in an emergency.

“People don’t want to get caught on the cameras so they will avoid it,” Batiz said.

The 911 calls have significantly decreased since “Westy” has been on the job and so has crime.

The idea to unleash the robots could soon become more widespread with the hostility towards police possibly resulting in ambushes where officers are lured into a trap by bogus distress calls. The nation got a good idea of how lawless cities would look last summer when Democrats, the media, and corporations sanctioned the militant, Marxist-inspired Black Lives Matter riots that erupted after the unfortunate death of George Floyd.

The trial of the officer who has been accused of murdering the career criminal and drug addict who became a martyr figure will soon begin in Minneapolis and anything less than a guilty verdict could trigger another round of burning, looting, mayhem, and violence against police officers.

More robots – especially white ones – will also trigger the inevitable complaints that such innovations are inherently racist, as socialist Twitter diva Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claimed over the deployment of a robotic dog in New York.

AOC and her fellow liberal hysterics are willfully ignorant of how they have been the best salespeople in the nation for automation thanks to their ridiculous demands for a $15 minimum wage that would finish breaking the backs of small businesses that the Democrats lockdowns haven’t.

The robots aren’t armed – at least not yet anyway.
