CA Gov. Newsom Compares Unvaccinated Californians to ‘Drunk Drivers’

Facing a mounting recall effort over his mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic, a drastic increase in homelessness and a spike in crime – California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom took to CNN and MSNBC to “encourage” residents of the Golden State to get vaccinated.

Governor Newsom was asked to comment on a new health edict requiring all state and healthcare employees to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19. According to the Los Angeles Times, employees who remain uninoculated will be subject to weekly COVID testing as a term of employment.

When MSNBC’s Ayman Mohyeldin questioned Newsom in regards to potential privacy concerns created by the mandate, Newsom justified the violation of bodily autonomy by citing California’s COVID positivity rate:

“It’s pretty self-evident. We went from .7%, the lowest positivity rate in America just a handful of weeks ago, now to 5.3% positivity.”

It was recently reported that the U.S. military could mandate vaccinations once the shots gain full approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Mohyeldin asked Newsom why his state would not adopt the same policy:

“We don’t want to go back to where we were this fall. We don’t want to wait until we’re overwhelmed in our ICUs. We don’t want to wait until thousands and thousands of more Californians die of a virus where they simply could save their lives by getting a simple vaccine shot.”

The embattled governor then drew a comparison between those who opt-out of receiving the experimental clot shot and drunk drivers.

“Twenty-five percent of people are choosing to live with this virus. You cant choose to drive drunk and put your life at risk. You put other lives at risk. At the end of the day, we’ve got to be a little bit more assertive to help people get this disease behind us . . .”

Newsom had made the same comparison earlier today during an interview with CNN anchor Victor Blackwell:

A recent Emerson College poll revealed that Newsom’s approval rating is steadily decreasing ahead of the September 14th recall election. According to the poll, Newsom has 48% of voters on his side with 43% in favor of the recall and 9% undecided. Conservative radio host Larry Elder has taken the lead among all challengers.
