Blinken’s “blame the victims” approach is just gross, and he repeated it multiple times during his briefing.

Basically the White House is setting the stage to claim that anybody remaining in Afghanistan after the end of the month was just too lazy to get out in time. Reality of course tells a very different story.

This information Blinken is giving was known weeks ago. He’s talking about Americans who registered with the Embassy months ago.
Why didn’t he know the number weeks ago? It should be updated regularly.
He’s only scrambling now.

Someone must ask @SecBlinken why the Embassy’s local staff was left behind? They are at the mercy of the Taliban.
This impacts how we are viewed in every single U.S. Embassy around the world.

Many still stuck in Afghanistan and it’s far from their choice.
This is beyond disgusting. If we had a real president and were in this same situation, this would be a job for special operations–get our people out and leave behind dozens, if not hundreds or even thousands of dead Taliban.
In fact, I wouldn’t doubt such an operation is in the works, perhaps called for by President Trump–privately funded and outside the reach of the U.S. government. Mere prayerful thinking?
