Sgt. Nicole Gee, 23, a “model Marine” from Roseville, California was killed Thursday in the blast.

Gee, a maintenance technician with 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, posted a photo of herself holding an Afghan baby just a few days before she was killed.

“I love my job” she said in the caption.

Gee’s best friend posted a heartbreaking tribute to the fallen Marine on Facebook.

Gee’s “last breath was taken doing what she loved—helping people—at HKIA in Afghanistan,” her friend said.

Marine Sgt. Johanny Rosario, 25, from Lawrence, Massachusetts was killed on Thursday.

Her family was notified Friday evening.

The family wishes for privacy “and that their loved one be recognized as the hero that she was,” Lawrence Mayor Kendrys Vasquez said, according to Boston 25 News.

Sgt. Johanny Rosario of Lawrence. The 25-year-old is a graduate of Lawrence High School and attended Bridgewater State University.

Thursday was the deadliest day for U.S. service members since August 2011. 13 US service members were killed and 15 more were critically wounded in a suicide bombing in Kabul.

The attack occurred as the U.S. was working to evacuate the remaining American and Afghan allies in Afghanistan before the August 31 deadline and to pull the remaining American forces from the country.

Since August 14, the U.S. has evacuated and facilitated the evacuation of tens of thousands of people. Exact numbers cannot be ascertained at this time but a conservative estimate would be 100,000 people.

The group generally known as ISIS-K claimed accountability for Thursday’s assault that also killed at the very least 170 Afghans

The U.S. Military said Friday an unmanned airstrike against ISIS-K in Afghanistan killed one of the group’s planners.

God speed heroes, RIP. And may God help to bring your families and loved ones peace and healing.
