The liberal freak-out over Elon Musk buying Twitter has pushed the billionaire from kind of left to kind of right but the transformation is not complete. While he says he supports the 2nd Amendment, Musk also believes that the sale of “assault rifles” should be limited to gun range owners and people who live in areas with gang warfare. WTF?
Musk sent an e-mail to CNBC with his thoughts on guns and gun control. It started out alright:
“I strongly believe that the right to bear arms is an important safeguard against potential tyranny of government. Historically, maintaining their power over the people is why those in power did not allow public ownership of guns,” Musk said.
But then things went sideways:
He said in emails to CNBC on Wednesday that he supports “tight background checks” for all gun sales and limiting sales of assault weapons to people in special circumstances, like gun range owners, or people who live in a “high risk location, like gang warfare.”
For a guy who is supposed to be super-intelligent, that is profoundly stupid. What does that even mean? High risk location, like gang warfare?
Under Musk’s plan, only people in the shittiest neighborhoods in America would be allowed to buy AR-15s, which are not “assault rifles” BTW. You have the two-pronged idiocy of unconstitutionally denying a person’s 2nd Amendment right based on their location and the proliferation of arms for the shootiest bunch of scumbags this country has to offer.
As for the “tight background check” business, that already exists. Is Musk suggesting something beyond the current background check system and if so, what? Anal probes? Psychic scanning?
As a side note, this CNBC article about Musk’s views on gun control is 19 paragraphs long. 7 of those paragraphs are about Donald Trump and Texas Governor Greg Abbott. No really, CNBC just slipped in an anti-Trump rant completely unrelated to the story they were covering.
Back to the actual story, where Musk called out the media for being full of shit:
In an email to CNBC, Musk blamed the media for giving murderers the attention he believes they crave by covering mass shootings.
“Regarding recent events, the shooters are obviously doing this to generate the most amount of attention possible. Why is the media doing exactly what the mass murderers want?” Musk asked.
Because that’s what the media does. Their job is not to report the news, it’s to sensationalize and terrify. And, as Musk is finding out, the media’s job is to push democratic party propaganda while suppressing all dissent.
It has occurred to me that Musk is actually trolling CNBC with this e-mail. He is known to be sarcastic and he loves f*cking with people. No reasonably intelligent person could simultaneously believe that the 2nd Amendment was written to protect the people from tyrannical governments and that semi-automatic rifles should only be sold to people in gang warfare areas.
I’m not quite sure what point Musk was trying to make here but I really want to believe he’s not regurgitating liberal talking points on guns.
