Furry hipster doofus Beto O’Rourke is known for his potty mouth and his hatred of the 2nd Amendment. He put both of those things on display by saying something insanely dumb about guns and then calling a heckler a “mother*cker” for laughing at him. Once again the democratic party debate-ender technique comes in handy.
Serial loser O’Rourke is running for governor in Texas on a gun control platform. Recently he held a town hall meeting in which he laid out his gun ban and confiscation scheme. He was talking about the AR-15 that a complete asshole used in the Uvalde school shooting when things went off the rails:
“I’m going to make sure, now 11 weeks since we lost 19 kids and their 2 teachers, shot to death with a weapon originally designed for use in combat, legally purchased by an 18-year-old, that did not try to obtain one when he was 16 or 17 but followed the law that’s on the books, ladies and gentleman, that says you can buy not one, you could buy two or more if you want to. AR-15s. Hundreds of rounds of ammunition and take that weapon that was originally designed for use on the battlefields in Vietnam to penetrate an enemy soldier’s helmet at 500 feet and knock him down dead up against kids at 5 feet,” said O’Rourke.
At that point, the wild gesturing and ridiculous lies were too much and one guy in the back let out a laugh.
“It may be funny to you, mother*cker, but it’s not funny to me, ok?” O’Rouke shouted.
Maybe it’s not funny to O’Rourke because he doesn’t have a sense of humor or doesn’t realize how absurd everything he said was.
If you were trying to design a weapon that could penetrate an enemy’s helmet at 500 feet, chambering that weapon in the relatively small 5.56 would be a bad choice. I’d think you’d probably want to go with something bigger like 50BMG. Also, no infantry weapon has ever been designed specifically for taking head shots. Generally speaking, you want your troops aiming for center mass.
Plus, the semi-automatic AR-15 was never used on the battlefields of Vietnam or any other battlefields. The select-fire M-16 was and the actual reason for its design was to be a lightweight rifle that uses an intermediate cartridge so soldiers could carry it on long patrols with plenty of extra ammo.
Amazingly enough, that wasn’t the only dumb thing O’Rourke said. He actually tried to claim that there is a law on the books in Texas that allows people to buy 2 or more AR-15s and use them to shoot kids at close range. To be clear, murder is illegal in Texas, including the shooting of kids in a school.
The weird thing is, Beto O’Rourke has to be used to people laughing at him. He’s a caricature of human being with wildly flailing arms, who says insane things. There’s no way this is the first time somebody cracked up watching him give a speech.
O’Rourke clearly has no future in politics so he might want to give stand-up comedy a try. The only problem there is, it’s doubtful he can be funny on purpose.
