Well gosh, there’s a new scientific study that claims supporting the 2nd Amendment is racist. In another, more scientific study, conducted by the Def-Con News Institute for Bullshit Detection, it has been concluded the original study is bullshit. Science is an amazing thing.

The American Psychological Association on Thursday released a study claiming a link between racism and support for the Second Amendment.
The study argues that White Americans who expressed high levels of anti-Black sentiments associated gun rights with White people and gun control with Black people. This was determined by research participants being quicker to match photos of White people to gun rights phrases such as “self-protection” and “National Rifle Association” and photos of Black people to gun control phrases such as “waiting period” and “weapons ban.”
Huh? Either this journalist sucks at explaining things or this study is even dumber than I thought. What the actual f*ck did they do here?
Did they show white people pictures of white people and then they yelled out “NRA!” and then they showed those same white people pictures of black people and they shouted “waiting periods!” and based on that it was determined these white people were racist? And based on this they determined that supporting the 2nd Amendment makes a person guilty of racism?
As it turns out there are more flaws with this study:
The study consisted of just 88 White Americans, 38 women and 50 men, 30% of whom were gun owners and an even split between Republicans and Democrats.
Here’s where that Def-Con News science comes in: 126 people is way too small a group to make any kind of conclusion and the fact that only 37 of them actually own guns blows the premise out of the water. The study claims that it linked support for the 2nd Amendment with racism but they only studied 37 people out of 126 who support the 2nd Amendment.
Additionally, it’s supposed to be split evenly 63/63 between Republicans and democrats. That means they found 26 Republicans who don’t own guns. Or, a more logical explanation is, they weren’t Republicans at all.
The biggest failure of this “scientific” study however is that they didn’t have any control groups. Despite the flawed method of determining racism, they needed to have black, Hispanic, and Asian groups doing the exact same test. If the racial minority groups results were different than those of the whites, they could say, “Hey, maybe there’s some racism going on here.” If the results were all about the same, which they would be, then this study is bullshit. And this study is bullshit.
But nothing compared to this:
The researchers emphasized that their findings don’t support the use of anti-Black racism as a means of advancing gun control reforms. “An attempt to politically weaponize racist beliefs expressed toward Black lawful gun owners would be shortsighted and could dangerously infringe upon the rights of Black people instead of focusing on saving lives from gun violence.”
Again, huh? The study claims that white people who support the 2nd Amendment are racist but don’t want politicians (democrats) to use their findings as an excuse to impose gun control on black people? Also again, what the actual f*ck?
What I think happened here is that this is not an actual scientific study but rather the work of a word salad generator. They punched in key phrases like “gun owners” “white people” and “racism” and this is what got puked out.
That doesn’t mean the liberal media won’t latch on to this story and proclaim ” Science Proves White Gun Owners Are Racist!” though. They will.
