Criminals won’t follow the laws as they are written on paper but New York City is hoping they will obey laws in sign form. In an effort to end out-of-control violent crime, the city has put up “gun-free zone” signs. If that doesn’t work, NYC will tweet criminals directly, telling them to knock it off.
This all starts back in June when the Supreme Court ruled in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen that New York’s “may issue” concealed carry law was unconstitutional. What that meant for the state and others with similar laws is that they have to issue concealed weapons permits to law-abiding people.
New York came back with an equally unconstitutional law that went into effect today, September 1. That law requires applicants have 16 hours of classroom instruction and 2 hours of range time. It also lets law enforcement go through social media accounts and requires 4 character references that can vouch for the applicant.
What if you are a friendless loser or kind of jerk? The 2nd Amendment doesn’t say your right to keep and bear arms is dependent upon you being a popular person. Imagine if you had to be likable to exercise you right to free speech. No democrat would be allowed to speak.
The part of the law that is relevant to this story is that it also bans people from carrying concealed weapons in “sensitive” areas. Those locations include amusement parks, schools, churches, subways and any other arbitrary place the government decides on. In NYC, they have decided Times Square is “sensitive” area and that’s why the gun-free zones went up.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul justified the new law by saying the SCOTUS ruling “destroyed the ability for a governor to be able to protect her citizens from people who carry concealed weapons anywhere they choose.”
Well there’s yer problem. The violent crime in New York and NYC isn’t because of law-abiding citizens carrying concealed firearms. It’s criminals with illegally possessed guns. You know, those scumbags New York lets out of jail with no bail so they can prey upon the good people of the state?
So this is the “thinking” with the geniuses running the show in New York: Criminals who don’t obey the laws as they are written will suddenly comply if they put up signs.
Hey, if they think that’s the key to fighting violent crime, they should put up more signs:
Put “Robbery-free zone” signs in all NYC bodegas to keep scumbags from stabbing immigrant workers.
Add “No beating people because they are white” signs on all buses to cut down on hate crimes.
In Central Park they could put up “No gang-raping after 7pm” signs.
In certain ethnic neighborhoods they could hang “Don’t beat the Jews” and “Stop kicking elderly Asian women” signs.
Shit, they should just declare the entire city a “Murder-free zone.” If there are signs up, nobody would dare disobey them, right?
Democrats created the rise in crime with bail reform that keeps violent offenders out of jail and puts them on the streets. The obvious solution to this is to lock these scumbags up but democrats went a different direction and put up some signs.
Democrats are great a causing problems but when it comes to fixing them, not so much.
