If you are curious as to how World War III starts, this just might be it. Russia fired two missiles into Poland, killing 2. Poland is of course a NATO member country and is entitled to defense from the rest of the alliance in the event of a military attack. What that means is that all of NATO, including the United States, must confront Russia militarily, which Putin has already said he’d go nuclear if that happens.
Fox News is reporting that Russia likely fired 2 missile that struck a grain facility in the Polish village of Przewodów, which is 15 miles from the Ukraine border. Neither Poland nor the United States has confirmed they were Russian missiles but Polish media has identified them as such and the Polish government is having an “emergency meeting” about the situation. That is to say, yeah they were Russian missiles.
Further proof that the missiles came from Russia with love, the Russians engaged in a massive missile strike on Ukraine today, targeting infrastructure. Some of those missiles hit targets in Lviv province, which is right near where the missiles hit in Poland.
The Russian Ministry of Defense denied firing the missiles, calling the incident “deliberate provocation in order to escalate the situation.”
“No strikes were made against targets near the Ukrainian-Polish state border by Russian means of destruction,” said Russia in a statement.
Here’s a chunk of one of the missiles and it should be pretty easy for experts to identify it as Russian:
Also, who the hell else is flinging missiles around in the region? This is Russia all the way.
Poland is a NATO nation and Article Five of the alliance agreement calls for the collective defense of member states. The U.S. and the rest of NATO is obligated to do something about this.
The question is what exactly NATO will do in response.
Joe Biden has stated that the U.S. will defend, “every inch” of NATO and a grain facility in Poland is at least 15 miles of NATO. Then again, Biden is senile liar, who can’t be taken at his word or in a serious way.
Another question is, why did Russia do this? It could be that a couple of missiles got away from them and hit Poland. Russia’s military is inept and their weapons are of poor quality. If this was the case Russia would have apologized for the mishap but they have completely denied it.
The more likely scenario is that Russian president Vladimir Putin is testing Joe Biden and NATO. The missiles didn’t land in the middle of nowhere, they hit a food production facility, so it was definitely deliberate. Putin is playing a game of chicken with Biden, banking that the illegitimate U.S. president will back down.
As much as I think Joe Biden is a terrible leader and bad decision maker, I don’t envy his options here. If he retaliates against Russia, that will escalate into a full-blown nuclear war in the blink of an eye. If Biden takes Russia’s word that they had nothing to do with it and takes no action against Putin, the Russian president will be embolden and make further strikes into NATO territory.
My guess is that Biden will deliver a strongly and weirdly worded condemnation and impose some more nutless sanctions on Russia, which is exactly what Putin is counting on.
Whatever the case, now might be a good time prepping for life as a post-nuclear apocalypse wasteland warlord.
