Democrats and liberal pundits would have us believe that there are thousands of mass shootings every year, perpetrated by white supremacists with AR-15s. A new study from DHS however shows most mass shootings are not racially motivated and rifles of any kind are rarely involved. Myth busted.
The FBI defines a mass shooting as a continuous event in which a single person kills 3 or more people. The Secret Service’s National Threat Assessment Center lowered the bar a bit by studying “mass attacks” where 3 or more people were harmed. This study included attacks where other weapons were used, but most of them involved firearms, so the data is relevant to mass shootings.
The first myth busting stat that sticks out in this study is that there were 173 mass attacks from 2016 to 2020. That’s around 35 mass attacks per year, which is way off of the hundreds or thousands of mass shootings the liberal media claims happen annually. Even with the 35 per year, not all of them are shootings and even less qualify as a mass shooting.
The next interesting tidbit is that more than half of mass attacks are related to disgruntled employees or domestic violence. Less than 18% have anything to do with ideological, bias-related, or political beliefs. They don’t break those numbers down any further to reveal how many were motivated by white supremacy, but that doesn’t matter as race rarely plays a role in mass shootings.
Of those attacks that did involve ideology, many of them were black separatists, jihadis, and leftist lunatics, so the percentage of right-wing or white supremacist killings are likely statistically insignificant. Otherwise, the study would have noted their importance.
When it comes to the firearms used in mass attacks, handguns were the weapon of choice, being used in 75% of mass shootings. Only 32% of the time was a long gun of any type used. If those numbers don’t seem like they match up, that’s because in many attacks both handguns and long guns were used.
The numbers get even more underwhelming as only 33% of the long guns that were used were semi-automatic. That means “deadly assault rifles that were designed for the battlefield” were barely used in mass shootings. The study also mentioned that the most common round used in a mass shooting is 9mm, not .223.
Contrary to liberal media belief, most mass shootings do not take place in schools or places of worship. 86% of mass shootings occurred in businesses or other public spaces. The study didn’t list the percentage that happened in schools or churches, because, again, they are not significant enough.
Lastly, the study showed that most guns used in mass attacks were possessed illegally and that most mass attackers suffered from mental illness.
What this study proves is something readers of Def-Con News have known all along: Gun control doesn’t do a damn thing to stop crazy people from doing evil things.
Even if liberals could have their wish and get “assault rifles” banned and confiscated, it wouldn’t have a noticeable effect on mass shootings. More importantly, it shows that the Biden administration’s war on white supremacy is complete bullshit.
