Gun-grabbing Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy proposed another pointless gun control bill that was summarily shot down by Republicans. Never one to let a good tragedy go to waste, Murphy then claimed if his bill had passed, the shooting on the UNLV campus never would have happened. This is the long way of saying this guy is completely full of shit.
On Wednesday, 67-year-old college professor, Anthony Polito, opened fire in a building on the University of Las Vegas Nevada campus, killing three and wounding one. Polito, was then killed by responding officers. It is speculated that Polito had applied for a job at the university and was rejected, so he came in, guns blazing, in an act of revenge. All of the victims were faculty, and no students were harmed.
This probably doesn’t qualify as a school shooting, and is more along the lines of a workplace violence scenario. Polito used a handgun that appears to have been legally purchased and owned by the killer. There is literally no legislation, beyond unconstitutional bans and confiscations, that would have stopped a legal gun owner from snapping.
And yet…
Today I asked my colleagues to pass my universal firearms background checks legislation. It’s supported by 90% of Americans and would save thousands of lives.
Republicans blocked it.
Three hours later, another mass shooting in UNLV.

You read that correctly. Chris Murphy is saying that had Republicans not blocked his gun control bill, the UNLV shooting would have never happened. Unfortunately, he didn’t go into detail how his magic piece of paper would instantaneously make a crazy guy thousands of miles away come to his senses and lay down his arms.
This is actually one of the dumbest things an anti-gun nut has ever said. Just for fun, let’s pretend that Republicans didn’t block Murphy’s bill. It would still need to go up for a full Senate vote, and that could be weeks from now. After that, it would go to the House, where Republicans would vote it down. Again, just for shits and giggles, let’s say Republicans were all high on meth and voted the gun control bill into law. That would be another lengthy process and then it would have to be signed by illegitimate president Joe Biden, so this is something that would likely take months.
Somehow, this fictions gun control law would then retroactively change the past and make the UNLV shooting disappear from history. That is some Ninja-level stupid bullshit.
Somehow Murphy’s steaming pile of exploitation reaches the top tier of gaslighting because his bill was for a universal background check system, and there’s a zero percent chance that the UNLV shooter didn’t pass a background check for the gun he used.
Oh, and one last piece of stupidity is that we already have a background check system in place. What Murphy proposed was a federal gun registry, which is the first step for a federal gun confiscation.
Needless to say, Senate Republicans didn’t enable a mass shooting in Nevada by blocking Chris Murphy’s gun control bill, but they did preserve the 2nd Amendment right to keep and bare arms.
