Joe Biden’s policy, the Connecticut independent told Newsmax’s Sunday Agenda, is that “you can deal with Iran, or you can defang them diplomatically. But the reality is, Iran has already escalated into a regional conflict.”
This from newsmax.com.
Former Sen. Joe Lieberman said on Newsmax Sunday:
The Regime’s Middle East policy has been based on a ‘mistaken belief that somehow you can trust Iran,’ while President Trump absolutely got the Middle East right.
Further:
One can look at Iran’s record since the Khomeini revolution in 1979 to know better and to see that they are simply untrustworthy.
Lieberman continued:
More than that, they’re violently anti-American and anti-our allies in the Middle East, particularly Israel and our closest Arab countries.
[The Regime] keep[s] saying, ‘We don’t want to escalate this into a regional conflict.’ But…Iran has already escalated into a regional conflict.
On the other hand, Lieberman said he disagrees with Trump on many things, but he does believe he was correct with the Middle East:
[B]ecause he treated our allies as our allies and our enemies as enemies … our allies are Israel and the Arab countries and our enemies are Iran.
Trump also pulled the United States out of the Iran nuclear agreement:
[W]hich was an abomination and with the leadership of his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, achieved the Abraham Accords between the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan.
Meanwhile, Lieberman said:
U.S. airstrikes will not deter terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah by treating them as separate entities, as they are part of the Iranian military.
Adding that Biden was slow to respond to the attacks that killed three American soldiers, Lieberman said:
They’re trained by Iran, and they will do whatever Iran tells them to do.
Further:
This is not going to get any better until we attack the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Iran.
That’s where the central command is, and if we scare them and hurt them this will all get better and more peaceful in the Middle East.
Lieberman on Sunday also rejected the theory that former President Barack Obama is behind Biden’s policy on Iran, but he does think there is a “continuity” from the “mistaken and dangerous Obama policy toward Iran.”
Lieberman continued:
And under Biden’s policies, there will be no security for U.S. troops in the region or Israel unless [The Regime] gets tough with the Iranians, not only militarily but economically.
He concluded:
They’re selling more oil under Biden than they did under President Trump. He put on maximum economic pressure, and that’s the only thing that they will respond to—that and the military force used against them. They’re a bully. And sometimes when you hit a bully the bully backs down, and we haven’t tried that with them in a long time.
Final thoughts, an opinion and a question: Lieberman sounds much like Sen. Lindsey Graham. War Hawks both of them. But WWTD, ‘What would Trump do?’
