GOP Lawmakers Introduce Legislation To Eliminate Taxes On Tips

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) introduced legislation on Tuesday that would eliminate taxes on tips.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) cosponsored the bill.

Rep. Massie said:

I just reintroduced Ron Paul’s Tax Free Tips Act. The bill advances President Trump’s proposal to end federal taxation on income derived from tips. Both Ron Paul and Trump are right. Taxes on tips should end.

Rep. Gaetz said:

Today, Rep Thomas Massie and I introduced legislation to eliminate federal taxes on tips for service-industry workers following President Trump announcing this as one of his top legislative priorities.

As the cost of living continues to rise, the hardworking men and women in the service industry, many of whom may be working a second job to make ends meet, must be allowed to keep every dollar of tip money they earn.

The proposed legislation follows President Trump’s call to stop taxing tips.

BREAKING: Trump Promises to Stop Taxing Tips!

Per Breitbart:

The IRS requires workers to report their tips monthly to their employer if their tip exceeds $20.

Major aspects of the Trump tax cut legislation, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, expire next year, and scrapping taxes on tips could be one of the considerations for a future tax cut bill.

During a visit to Capitol Hill this week, Trump recounted how he first thought to propose eliminating taxes on tips.

Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) said on Thursday:

His story—it was so much fun—[was] about the waitress that gave him the idea not to tax tips. He got that idea when a waitress was serving him a meal and said to him, ‘You know, we just got these new rules that require us to go through a tremendous amount of record keeping to report our tips and the penalties are onerous.’

Trump reportedly asked rhetorically to the waitress:

Well why are we even taxing tips?

Lummis said:

It was an indication that he just really listens to working Americans and respects their opinions.

Rep. Greene responded:

I absolutely LOVE President Trump’s plan for NO TAX ON TIPS!! Write it on every receipt you sign!

Greene added:

I’m proud to join Rep Thomas Massie in co-sponsoring the Tax Free Tips Act! President Trump is right, no one should be taxed on the tips they receive for providing a good service.

Greene continued:

I fully support and am co-sponsoring Rep. Thomas Massie’s resolution to rescind the subpoenas for Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro by repudiating Nancy Pelosi’s illegitimate J6 committee.

Nancy Pelosi violated House rules by refusing to accept McCarthy’s appointed Republicans on the committee. Now, our Republican-led House must nullify any actions taken by the illegitimate J6 committee.

Further:

We must also hold the J6 Committee members accountable for the destruction of the committee’s records. House Republicans need to start taking action!
