Businesses in downtown Chicago have started boarding up their doors and windows ahead of next week’s Democratic National Convention, when thousands of anti-Israeli protesters are expected to descend upon the Windy City.
Boarded up windows and doors could be seen downtown Thursday.
Scott Shapiro, owner of Syd Jerome, said:
As we know, this city has a poor track record when it comes to protecting businesses.
The looming unknowns ahead of next week’s convention are why Shapiro said he knew he had to take precautions to keep his decades-old business safe.
Shapiro added:
We felt it was more prudent to board up, since our customers and their employers have told them to stay home throughout the convention for their own safety.
Other downtown businesses are also taking precautions, like the Garland Building on North Wabash Avenue and Washington Street, which houses multiple office spaces, stores and restaurants. Chicago Board-Up Services has been quite busy.
Vicki Fichter, owner of Chicago Board-Up Services, said:
We’re boarding them up tight, so that there’s no entry.
NOTE: Law enforcement (Protect and Serve) is so unenforced in Chicago there is a professional board-up company. But it’s all peaceful, right? So peaceful that members of Congress are being told to hide their identities.

House Democrats attending the Democratic National Convention next week are being advised by congressional security officials not to book hotel rooms under their own names or engage with protesters if confronted.
One House Leftist told Axios they are:
Very concerned about their personal security and that of course other lawmakers are as well.
A senior House Leftist said:
[L]aw enforcement is telling members ‘not to go to a certain area, because they expect violence.’

For years now, the Left has insisted walls are racist and do not work but those rules apparently do not apply when it comes to their own safety.
The DNC will kick off in Chicago this week and with the anticipation of massive protests by the radical liberals, the Left are building a protective wall around the event.
ABC News in Chicago reported:
DNC security restrictions—a security footprint—around United Center, McCormick Place start at midnight Friday ahead of the 2024 Democratic National Convention; car screenings soon.
The security footprint area encompasses a 15-foot buffer around the perimeter of McCormick Place and the United Center, and includes Union Park and Park 578, where large-scale protests are planned. The CHA parking lot next to Park 578 is also included.
Within this area, no one will be allowed:
[To] push, pull or transport any vehicle, cart or float or throw any item. [No one will be allowed] to possess any item deemed a potential safety hazard, including large bags and suitcases as well as laptops, sealed packages, drones, animals other than service/guide dogs, bicycles, scooters, folding chairs, balloons, coolers, glass, thermal or metal containers, umbrellas with metal tips, tobacco products including e-cigarettes, lighters, matches, firearms, ammunition, fireworks, tents and structures, and pointed objects of any kind, including knives.
In issuing rules prohibiting those items from the demonstration zones, CPD said they are in accordance with city ordinance. Violators could face jail time.
