Authorities have revealed that Matthew Livelsberger, 37, shot himself in the head moments before his Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside Trump Tower in Las Vegas.

Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill said on Wednesday:
We do know who rented the truck, we are looking at that individual, but I am not prepared to release the name of any of the individuals that we are looking at.
Senior law enforcement sources confirmed to KOAA news outlet that Livelsberger was the driver of the Cybertruck used in the attack.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill confirmed on Thursday that Livelsberger’s body was so badly burned in the explosion that identification was only possible through his tattoos.
The sheriff said:
Livelsberger was found in the vehicle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Further:
We believe the question is, was the gunshot self-inflicted? We do believe it was since he was the only person in the vehicle, and it occurred immediately prior to the vehicle blowing up.
And:
The question is, am I comfortable calling it a suicide mission? I’m comfortable calling it a suicide with the bombing that occurred immediately thereafter. I’m not given and any other labels.
Credit cards, a military ID, and his passport were also found on his person, but DNA confirmation is still pending.
Sheriff McMahill added:
There’s lots more for us to do in this investigation. We haven’t even gotten into the phones or the computers, which are usually very instructive and informative to us as we investigate.
We’ve got a lot more work to do to trace him, to see the stores that he went to, to rule out anybody else.

Authorities believe the blast was triggered by a detonation system controlled by Livelsberger, who died in the attack.
Livelsberger’s ties to Colorado Springs have prompted federal agents and local police to do search warrants on multiple addresses linked to him in the area.

Livelsberger had a distinguished military career, serving as a special forces operations sergeant with the 10th Special Forces Group.
According to New York Post:
He was stationed at Camp Panzer Kaserne near Stuttgart, Germany, where he managed remote and autonomous systems, including drone operations and maintenance.

His service included roles as a communications specialist, intelligence and operations specialist, and operations manager within the Green Berets. He was also a summa cum laude graduate from Norwich University in Vermont, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis.
The Cybertruck involved in the explosion was rented through the Turo app, the same platform used by Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the perpetrator of a terrorist attack in New Orleans on the same day.
Both individuals had served at the same military base, leading investigators to explore potential connections between the two incidents. However, as of now, authorities have not confirmed any definitive links.
The FBI is actively investigating the Las Vegas explosion as a potential act of terrorism, conducting searches in Colorado Springs related to Livelsberger.
