A Legal Immigrant Comes Out Swinging After Woke Bishop’s Sermon at National Prayer Service

Notedly, President Trump has a knack for bringing out the absolute worst in his Leftist critics, and that has certainly proven true since his inauguration as our 47th President at noon on Monday, January 20th.

This from redstate.com.

Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH)

As inaugural gatherings continue and the leaderless, angry crime syndicate of the Left struggles to cope with the reality that they have failed and failed miserably, their anger and foolish unforced errors have become more pronounced and have moved well beyond being entertaining for We the People.

Case in point, Mariann Budde, a notoriously anti-Trump Episcopalian bishop at the Washington National Cathedral who decided to play politics during the National Prayer Service Tuesday by lecturing Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance on LGBTQ-related and illegal immigration issues.

Here is a sample of what she said during the service:

And the people, the people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meat-packing plants, who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants, they, they may not be citizens or have the proper documentation, but the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors.

Trump and Vance, of course, were not remotely amused, and the looks on their faces—especially Vance’s—spoke volumes about what they were likely thinking:

Someone else who was not amused was first-term Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH), a Colombia-born immigrant who took to X to blast both Budde and the lecture she gave:

As a Catholic & legal immigrant, it’s outrageous that some woke Bishop would lecture President Trump about deporting illegals. It’s an insult to all of us who came to this country the right way.

If you don’t have borders, then you don’t have a country.

We have not heard much from Senator Moreno since he was sworn in, but that certainly was a good start.

Here is what is going to happen:

[The Bishop], as she did after the St. John’s Episcopal Church nursery was set on fire, allegedly by Antifa/Black Lives Matters-led wacktivists, in the spring of 2020—for which [The Bishop] at the time blamed Trump—is going to get her moment to shine in the media spotlight in the usual places like PBS and probably MSNBC.

But what The Bishop has, in effect, done is make things much worse for the Left because this is the type of tiresome woke pablum that voters soundly rejected on Election Day, and the “rally ’round” effect that her comments are going to inspire among leftists will only exacerbate their myriad issues when it comes to trying to connect with average American voters.

We the People must not stand in the way while our political opposition is self-destructing, but The perhaps-not-so-wise Bishop should have played the tape through and considered the ramifications before she spoke.

Final thoughts: A public scolding does not a solemn prayer for guidance make. The Bishop could perhaps have progressed her cause if she had more wisely chosen her words. For example, pray the human trafficking is stopped and pray those seeking to come to America are able to find ways to do so legally.

UPDATE:

In response to The Bishop’s missed opportunity, the president wrote:

The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hard line Trump hater.

Further, he called out Budde’s “nasty tone” and noted:

[She] brought her church into the World of politics in a very ungracious way.

Conservative commentator Jack Posobiec, who attended the breakfast, captured the mood perfectly:

She really thought her woke sermon would be the end of Trump.

Spoiler alert: it wasn’t.
