Panama Offers Limited Concessions After Rubio Visit

With China’s gratitude going to the late Jimmy Carter, and in violation to the treaty that turned over the canal to Panama, the Panama Canal has become a Chinese property. And for America this is unacceptable.

This from frontpagemag.com.

As previously reported by Front Page Magazine:

Panama joined China’s Belt and Road Initiative. It recently renewed a contract with Hutchison Ports, a Hong Kong based company, to manage the canal. The ports around the canal are also controlled by Chinese companies.

China has built four bridges over the canal and controls much of the construction projects and the vital infrastructure in Panama.

China for all intents and purposes controls the Panama Canal, the ports around it and the local infrastructure that makes international trade possible.

Secretary of State Rubio paid a visit to Panama and the government offered not to renew its links to the Belt and Road Initiative and ‘investigate’ some of the Chinese presence.

Well, this would be a start to rectifying the problem, but for the lack of necessary tough talk, it amounts to very little. The Belt and Road Initiative was particularly insulting to the United States and a clear violation of the treaty, but Hutchison remains the larger issue. And any failure to dislodge it is a crisis.

That’s why President Trump has been stepping up his rhetoric, but the question is whether there is a deal to be made here or not. Legally, America is within its rights to reclaim the Panama Canal. Skeptics fear this literally is the plan. However, the outcome will likely come down to a deal that falls short of that and Trump is trying to make the best deal possible. And the best deal possible is for China to go home.

Final thoughts: A quick review, Jimmy Carter gave away America’s Panama Canal, Barack Hussein Obama took his eyes off the prize, and Dementia Joe turned over control of the canal to his benefactor—China. Now, like every other mess the communist/globalist crime syndicate negotiated America into, a Conservative must solve the created problem.

UPDATE:

Panama has announced plans to end its canal agreement with China following a visit from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. During his visit, Secretary Rubio met with Panama’s President Raúl Mulino to discuss concerns over China’s influence around the Panama Canal. President Mulino assured Rubio that Panama’s sovereignty over the canal remains intact but acknowledged Washington’s concerns.

The decision involves not renewing a 2017 memorandum of understanding with China, which was part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative. President Mulino suggested that the agreement with Beijing could end earlier than planned. He expressed interest in strengthening ties with the United States, particularly in infrastructure investments.

President Donald Trump had previously expressed a desire for the U.S. to “take back” the canal, citing China’s growing presence as a concern. However, President Mulino downplayed the possibility of U.S. military intervention, emphasizing Panama’s control over the canal.

Panama is also conducting an audit on a Chinese-linked company operating terminals around the canal. The audit aims to determine any necessary legal actions. The company, Panama Ports Company, is part of CK Hutchison Holdings, a Hong Kong-based conglomerate.

In addition to canal discussions, Panama and the U.S. talked about expanding a migrant repatriation flight program. This initiative aims to reduce irregular migration through the Darien Gap, with the U.S. covering the costs of repatriating migrants from various countries.
