Trump Ends Biden Deal with Dictator, Places Sanctions on Corrupt Venezuela

America has always had a complicated relationship with dictators. Some presidents had cozied up to them, hoping friendly gestures will transform tyrants into reasonable partners.

Others had prefered the Reagan approach: strength, clarity, and an unwavering commitment to American interests. No fuzzy diplomacy or wishful thinking—just straight talk backed by decisive action.

This from thepatriotjournal.com.

President Trump has delivered a major blow to Venezuela’s socialist regime. In a move that reverses his predecessor’s policies, Trump announced he is terminating oil concessions that allowed American energy company Chevron to operate in Venezuela.

From Daily Wire:

We are hereby reversing the concessions that Crooked Joe Biden gave to Nicolás Maduro, of Venezuela, on the oil transaction agreement, dated November 26, 2022, and also having to do with electoral conditions within Venezuela, which have not been met by the Maduro regime.

The decision comes after Venezuela failed to meet key commitments made to The Obiden Regime. Trump made it clear that Maduro’s government has not lived up to its end of the bargain—both in terms of electoral reforms and the return of Venezuelan migrants.

Trump stated in his announcement:

Additionally, the regime has not been transporting the violent criminals that they sent into our Country (the Good Ole’ U.S.A.) back to Venezuela at the rapid pace that they had agreed to.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio quickly backed the President’s decision, having said:

[He is] providing foreign policy guidance to terminate all Biden-era oil and gas licenses that have shamefully bankrolled the illegitimate Maduro regime.

The Obiden Regime granted Chevron a license to operate in Venezuela’s oil sector on November 26, 2022. This baffling move was supposedly designed to encourage democratic reforms. Because:

[N]othing says ’embrace democracy’

like handing cash to dictators!

Instead, it provided a financial lifeline to Maduro’s corrupt government. Chevron has been exporting approximately 240,000 barrels of crude daily from its Venezuela operations. That is over a quarter of the country’s entire oil production.

The money flowing from this arrangement has been substantial. Experts estimate the regime pocketed between $2.1 billion and $3.2 billion annually. Just from royalties and taxes!

That’s billions flowing directly into the coffers of a regime that has destroyed Venezuela’s economy. The same regime that drove millions of its citizens to flee—many straight to our southern border.

Venezuela has consistently failed to deliver on the promises it made to secure these oil concessions. The Maduro regime agreed to implement electoral reforms as part of the deal. Shockingly, those reforms never materialized.

In fact, Maduro’s last two election wins were both disputed by Washington. Venezuela’s opposition claims it won the July 2024 presidential election by a landslide. This assertion is backed by the United States and other Western countries.

Trump also highlighted Venezuela’s failure to accept deportation flights from the United States.

They are not taking back their criminals at the agreed rate. This comes despite a recent visit by Trump’s special envoy Richard Grenell. He had reportedly secured commitments from the Venezuelan government to accept deportations.

The decision to revoke Chevron’s license sends a crystal-clear message. The Trump administration prioritizes American security over corporate interests. Tough luke, Chevron!

While the oil giant will certainly feel the pinch, the blow to Maduro’s regime will be far more significant. Talk about hitting them where it hurts!

Venezuela sits on the world’s largest proven oil reserves—at least 300 billion barrels. But without American technology and market access, much of that oil will stay right where it is. Underground.

Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez called the U.S. decision “damaging and inexplicable.” She even had the nerve to claim these “kinds of failed decisions” had prompted migration out of Venezuela. Right. Not the socialist policies that collapsed their economy!

Some experts warn that tightening sanctions could worsen Venezuela’s economic crisis. They say it might drive more migration. But the Trump administration appears willing to accept that risk. Principles matter. So does standing firm against a hostile regime that breaks promises.
