Quick Takes from the Past 24-48 Hours

The ‘Speed of Trump’ continues.

The following is an installment of Trump-Vance team accomplishments (each article is linked for further info):

1.  Trump Has Paused All Military Aid to Ukraine and Zelenskyy Has Groveled

Zelenskyy suggested the war with Russia would last a long time and in response President Trump paused all military aid to Ukraine.

The pause will halt all military aid that is currently in transit to Ukraine.

Earlier Monday Trump said he has absolutely had it with Zelenskyy digging in his heels and refusing to come to the table to a peace agreement with Russia.

Trump said on Truth Social:

This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelenskyy, and America will not put up with it for much longer! It is what I was saying, this guy doesn’t want there to be Peace as long as he has America’s backing and, Europe, in the meeting they had with Zelenskyy, stated flatly that they cannot do the job without the U.S.—Probably not a great statement to have been made in terms of a show of strength against Russia. What are they thinking?

2. President Trump RESPONDS to ‘Governor Trudeau’ over Tariffs

President Trump’s tariffs have gone into effect for both Mexico and Canada, and ‘Governor Trudeau’ responded earlier today saying he’s not backing down from a fight and is instituting 25% tariffs of his own:

Via CNN:

Canada will be implementing 25% tariffs against 155 billion Canadian dollars worth of American goods, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a press conference Tuesday.

Speaking from Ottawa, Trudeau said there was ‘absolutely no justification or need whatsoever’ for the tariffs imposed by the US on Canada, which went into effect today.

‘The United States launched a trade war against Canada, its closest partner and ally, their closest friend. At the same time they’re talking about working positively with Russia, appeasing Vladimir Putin: a lying, murderous dictator. Make that make sense,’ the prime minister said.

The prime minister explained that 30 billion Canadian dollars worth of US goods would see tariffs immediately, while the remaining 125 billion Canadian dollars worth of goods would see tariffs in 21 days.

Trump responded to Trudeau by reminding him of his reciprocal tariff policy:

Please explain to Governor Trudeau, of Canada, that when he puts on a Retaliatory Tariff on the U.S., our Reciprocal Tariff will immediately increase by a like amount!

Welp. This has become real ugly real fast.

Pass the popcorn, please.

3. Iowa Governor Signs Bill Removing Gender Identity from Civil Rights Code

Governor Kim Reynolds signed the landmark bill on Friday and Iowa became the first state in America to remove gender identity from its civil rights code.

The legislation marks the first time any state has removed a previously protected class from civil rights legislation.

Reynolds defended the decision as necessary to protect women and girls. She explained the previous code created confusion about biological differences between sexes.

She said:

It’s common sense to acknowledge the obvious biological differences between men and women. In fact, it’s necessary to secure genuine equal protection for women and girls.

Further:

[T]he previous civil rights code blurred the biological line between the sexes.

Finally, someone in leadership is stating what most Americans know to be true! Biology isn’t just some inconvenient fact to be ignored when it doesn’t fit the latest progressive agenda.

The new law goes into effect July 1. And it will require birth certificates to reflect a person’s sex assigned at birth. It removes previous provisions allowing transgender individuals to update their birth certificates after medical transition.

4. Anti-Trump FBI Official Who Vowed to Oppose POTUS Gets Removed from Job

Those who have grown comfortable in their positions are suddenly finding the ground shifting beneath their feet. This is a tale as old as politics itself—when a new sheriff comes to town, the old deputies must either adapt or find

James Dennehy, the head of the FBI’s New York field office, learned this lesson the hard way on Monday. After encouraging his staff to “dig in” against the Trump administration’s efforts to investigate the bureau’s handling of January 6 cases, Dennehy was forced out of his position.

From The Daily Wire:

‘Today, we find ourselves in the middle of a battle of our own, as good people are being walked out of the F.B.I. and others are being targeted because they did their jobs in accordance with the law and F.B.I. policy,’ Dennehy wrote to staff at the time.

According to NBC News:

Dennehy was given the stark choice to either resign or be fired. He chose the former.

His retirement papers hit the desk on Monday. No reason was provided for his removal. But actions speak louder than words.

The tensions between the FBI and the Trump administration have been building for weeks. The spark? The Department of Justice requested the names of FBI agents who worked on cases related to the January 6, 2021, Capitol event.

The FBI ultimately turned over details on approximately 5,000 employees involved in January 6 cases. But they played it coy. They identified them only through unique identifier codes rather than by name, as reported by the Associated Press. A bureaucratic game of hide-and-seek.

The changes at the FBI represent part of a broader effort to reform federal agencies that many conservatives believe had become unaccountable to elected officials.

Under the new leadership of Patel and Bongino, the bureau appears to be undergoing a significant transformation. Both personnel and priorities are getting a much-needed makeover.

5. DOGE Investigates Pentagon, Reveals $80 Million in DEI Woke Training

Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell revealed the findings in a video statement that has fiscal conservatives cheering.

Parnell’s blunt assessment cuts to the heart of growing concerns that America’s military has strayed from its primary purpose—defending the nation—and wandered into social engineering territory that does nothing to improve readiness or lethality.

[The] DOGE team has identified about $80 million in spending on diversity, equity, and inclusion that will likely be cut…

You see, folks, this stuff is not a core function of our military. This is not what we do. This is a distraction from our core mission.

The DOGE team’s investigation revealed the Air Force had earmarked nearly $2 million for “holistic DEI transformation and training.”

What does that mean?

Another $3.5 million was discovered at the Defense Human Resources Activity for “support to DEI groups.” That is money that could purchase actual military equipment or improve training for service members.

The University of Montana received $6 million to “strengthen American democracy by bridging divides.” While that might sound noble, it is fair to ask why the Pentagon is funding social science experiments when there are adversaries building hypersonic missiles.

Perhaps most puzzling was $1.6 million allocated to the University of Florida to study “social and institutional detriments of vulnerability and resilience to climate hazards in the African Sahel.” Apparently, the Pentagon’s job is now to save the Sahel, not saving America?

While DEI programs represent the low-hanging fruit of government waste, the DOGE team’s investigation is just starting to uncover the Pentagon’s spending excesses. The $80 million identified so far appears to be just the appetizer in a buffet of bureaucratic bloat.

According to retired Air Force Col. Robert L. Maness, the U.S. Navy spends a whopping $40 million annually on “bizarre marine animal experiments.” These include putting headphones on marine animals to blast loud noises in their ears and teaching them to play video games. You can’t make this stuff up.
