Quick Takes from the Past 24-48 Hours

The following is an installment of Trump-Vance team accomplishments (each article is linked for further info):

1. Justice Alito’s Deportation Dissent: Court Rushed Trump Block

Joined by fellow conservative Justice Clarence Thomas, Alito said there was “dubious factual support” for granting the request in an emergency appeal from the American Civil Liberties Union. The group contended immigration authorities appeared to be moving to restart such removals under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798.

The court had previously said deportations could proceed only after those about to be removed had a chance to argue their case in court and were given “a reasonable time” to contest their pending removals.

Alito said in the dissent:

Both the Executive and the Judiciary have an obligation to follow the law.

Further:

[U]nprecedented [relief was] hastily and prematurely granted.

Alito wrote:

[It was] not clear whether the Supreme Court had jurisdiction at this stage of the case.

Also, saying not all legal avenues had been played out in lower courts and the justices had not had the chance to hear the government’s side.

Further:

In sum, literally in the middle of the night, the Court issued unprecedented and legally questionable relief without giving the lower courts a chance to rule, without hearing from the opposing party, within eight hours of receiving the application, with dubious factual support for its order, and without providing any explanation for its order.

2. President Trump Wished a Happy Easter to All, Including the “Radical Left Lunatics Who Are…”

Happy Easter from President Trump, as only President Trump could say.

Happy Easter to all, including the Radical Left Lunatics who are fighting and scheming so hard to bring Murderers, Drug Lords, Dangerous Prisoners, the Mentally Insane, and well known MS-13 Gang Members and Wife Beaters, back into our Country. Happy Easter also to the WEAK and INEFFECTIVE Judges and Law Enforcement Officials who are allowing this sinister attack on our Nation to continue, an attack so violent that it will never be forgotten! Sleepy Joe Biden purposefully allowed Millions of CRIMINALS to enter our Country, totally unvetted and unchecked, through an Open Borders Policy that will go down in history as the single most calamitous act ever perpetrated upon America. He was, by far, our WORST and most Incompetent President, a man who had absolutely no idea what he was doing—But to him, and to the person that ran and manipulated the Auto Pen (perhaps our REAL President!), and to all of the people who CHEATED in the 2020 Presidential Election in order to get this highly destructive Moron Elected, I wish you, with great love, sincerity, and affection, a very Happy Easter!!!”

3. Voters in 21 Congressional Swing Districts Heavily Favor Extension of Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts

Americans in those districts, and millions more across the country, are worried about the current high living costs, and made it clear they want the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 to be extended indefinitely.

The survey found that 81% of respondents said their cost of living had increased in the past year, with most expecting further increases in the coming years.

Meanwhile, 80% said they will struggle to meet their basic needs, like affording groceries and utilities, if their taxes increase.

The poll also found that 52% of those same voters want the tax cuts to be made permanent. Only 36% disagreed with that option.

The end of the year could spell doom for millions of American families if Trump’s tax cuts are not extended.

It would mean the average family pays about $1,700 more in taxes.

4. Medal of Honor Recipient Reenlists in Marine Corps 15 Years After Leaving the Service

With his right hand raised, 36-year-old Dakota Meyer swore the Oath of Enlistment before Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth at the Pentagon’s Hall of Heroes, according to the U.S. Marine Corps website.

Meyer said at the ceremony:

There hasn’t been a single day since I got out 15 years ago that I didn’t wake up and truly want to serve again.

I didn’t want to do it because of the rank. I didn’t want to do it for recognition. I just did it because the mission never left me.

During a Friday segment of “America’s Newsroom” on Fox News, Meyer encouraged those thinking about enlisting into the Marine Corps to do so.

He said:

There’s never been a need, like we need right now, of good men and women who are willing to stand up and who are willing [to] defend the beliefs of the American people, of the Constitution, and to protect all of those things against whatever enemy that is willing to try to step up and to try to threaten that.

In 2009, Sgt. Meyer was awarded the Medal of Honor, the highest military decoration in the United States, according to a 2024 news release from the Department of Defense.

Meyer was just 21 years old when he and Staff Sgt. Juan Rodriguez-Chavez rescued dozens of trapped men during a firefight in Afghanistan.

Rodriguez-Chavez drove the Humvee and Meyer manned the turret as the two traversed the combat zone for hours, rescuing as many as they could, even recovering the bodies of four U.S. servicemen.

God speed to SecDef Hegseth’s mission of returning our military to the best it was meant to be.

5. Trump Administration Is Pulling Hundreds of Troops from Syria

Under the Trump administration, the U.S. military is making a significant shift by withdrawing hundreds of troops from Syria. The Pentagon is framing this as a “consolidation” to reflect the evolving security landscape.

Pentagon press secretary Sean Parnell said in a statement Friday:

Recognizing the success the United States has had against ISIS, including its 2019 territorial defeat under President Trump, today the Secretary of Defense directed the consolidation of U.S. forces in Syria under Combined Joint Task Force—Operation Inherent Resolve to select locations in Syria. “

This deliberate and conditions-based process will bring the U.S. footprint in Syria down to less than 1,000 forces in the coming months. As this consolidation takes place… U.S. Central Command will remain poised to continue strikes against the remnants of (IS) in Syria.

The New York Times had earlier reported three of the eight small U.S. outposts in northeastern Syria would be closed, leading to the withdrawal of around 600 service members.

6. Americans Are Searching “USA Products” Like Never Before

Tariffs are designed to shift consumer demand toward domestically produced goods. As foreign products become increasingly expensive, driven by levies such as the Trump administration’s 145% effective tariff rate on Chinese imports, consumers are taking notice.

With an effective tariff rate of 145% on all Chinese goods, Beijing signaled on Wednesday that it is open to trade talks in the near term. In the tit-for-tat tariff war, China has imposed 125% duties on U.S. goods.

In recent weeks, President Trump has paused reciprocal tariffs for countries that chose not to retaliate following “Liberation Day” in early April. The White House announced last week the administration is in talks with 75 countries to secure new trade deals.

Even as trade deals are expected in the coming weeks and months, the broader objective of the tariff strategy is to reshore critical supply chains essential to national security and to position the United States for dominance in the 2030s. Early internet search trend signs suggest the tariffs are already influencing consumer behavior—this is a great start.
