Trump Appoints Jeanine Pirro as Interim U.S. Attorney for DC; Ed Martin to be Director of the Weaponization Working Group, Associate Deputy Attorney General, and Pardon Attorney

President Trump announced Jeanine Pirro’s appointment as Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.

This from redstate.com.

The president stated in a Truth Social post:

I am pleased to announce that Judge Jeanine Pirro will be appointed interim United States Attorney for the District of Columbia. Jeanine was Assistant District Attorney for Westchester County, New York, and then went on to serve as County Judge, and District Attorney, where she was the first woman ever to be elected to those positions. During her time in office, Jeanine was a powerful crusader for victims of crime. Her establishment of the Domestic Violence Bureau in her Prosecutor’s Office was the first in the Nation. She excelled in all ways. In addition to her Legal career, Jeanine previously hosted her own Fox News Show, Justice with Judge Jeanine, for ten years, and is currently Co-Host of The Five, one of the Highest Rated Shows on Television. Jeanine is incredibly well qualified for this position, and is considered one of the Top District Attorneys in the History of the State of New York. She is in a class by herself. Congratulations Jeanine!

‘Be careful what you wish for’ is something I routinely think when mulling over political strategy. Whenever you want a certain politician or appointee removed, you have to be sure that the replacement won’t be worse. For instance, when I was writing about LA County Department of Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer, someone asked me, ‘What if you succeed in having her removed, but they bring in someone who’s just as much of a True Believer as Ferrer but easier on the eyes and with better speaking ability?’ Unfortunately we haven’t yet succeeded in getting rid of Not-a-Doctor Ferrer, so we don’t know who would be foisted upon us in that scenario, but the warning stayed with me.

The above warning is something Sen. Thom Tillis (RINO-NC) should have thought about when obstinately and publicly dissing President Trump’s selection for U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Ed Martin. While taking questions from reporters Thursday, Trump signaled he would be naming someone else for that office since Martin’s nomination would not be able to get out of the Senate Judiciary Committee due to Tillis’ opposition, which seemed to be a Tillis victory.

And since, according to both Axios and ABC News:

Trump is considering appointing Jeanine Pirro, a former judge and prosecutor and co-host of Fox News’ “The Five” to the post as interim U.S. Attorney.

And according to ABC News:

The job is Pirro’s to have if she wants it, a senior administration official told Axios.

Ed Martin was able to serve as interim U.S. Attorney for only a few more weeks without confirmation, and without a replacement it would be left to anti-Trump U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg to name a U.S. Attorney. Obviously, Trump cannot allow that to happen.

Jeanine Pirro is on the same page as Martin regarding January 6 defendants, so Tillis is likely to oppose this nomination too, but given Pirro’s decades of legal experience and her experience as both a prosecutor and a judge (Martin did not have that experience) and the fact that Pirro did not represent January 6 defendants in court, Tillis will have a hard time outright opposing the nomination.

The following from redstate.com.

President Trump caused a bit of a stir Thursday morning when, following his announcement of a major trade deal with the U.K., he took questions from reporters and, in the process, announced that he would be withdrawing the nomination of “Eagle” Ed Martin to serve as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.

Not to fear, though, Martin has already found a new role in the administration: On Thursday evening, Trump announced Martin would be serving in the Department of Justice “as the new Director of the Weaponization Working Group, Associate Deputy Attorney General, and Pardon Attorney.”

Ed Martin has done an AMAZING job as interim U.S. Attorney, and will be moving to the Department of Justice as the new Director of the Weaponization Working Group, Associate Deputy Attorney General, and Pardon Attorney. In these highly important roles, Ed will make sure we finally investigate the Weaponization of our Government under the Biden Regime, and provide much needed Justice for its victims. Congratulations Ed!

Trump appointed Martin as the Interim U.S. Attorney for D.C. the day he was inaugurated and announced his nomination to formally fill the role in mid-February. However, as reported earlier this week, Senator Thom Tillis (RINO-NC) declared he would not support the nomination, and was one of the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, that effectively blocked Martin’s nomination from advancing to the full Senate.

Shortly after Trump’s announcement, Martin responded, signaling he is pleased with the move.

Martin followed that up with a post thanking the president, and vowing to “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Harmeet Dhillon, who now serves as the United States Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division, celebrated the move(s) as well:

Final thought: May the Left (Thom Tillis) regret what they wished for.

God speed to the Trump-Vance team.
