President Trump formally bid farewell to Elon Musk and thanked him for his tremendously successful “stint” as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—a position the billionaire held since January.
The tribute video begins with footage from President Trump’s final presidential campaign blitz in 2024 with Elon Musk. On the campaign trail, President Trump said:
I will create a government efficiency commission tasked with conducting a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government. As the first order of business, this commission will develop an action plan to totally eliminate fraud and improper payments within six months.

In a tribute video shared across social media on Friday, May 31, the president praised Musk’s contributions as “without comparison in modern history.”
He captioned the video saying, “The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is VICTORIOUS in slashing waste, fraud, and abuse! Thank you, @ElonMusk.”
The video, released by the Trump White House, traces Elon Musk’s political journey from his public endorsement of Donald Trump in July 2024 following an assassination attempt on the then-candidate to his final day in Washington D.C.
The administration shared a list of “DOGE Wins,” detailing major accomplishments under Musk’s leadership. These include canceling more than 500,000 active federal credit cards/accounts and reclaiming $170 billion in taxpayer funds through aggressive audits and system reforms.
In a joint press appearance, Trump awarded Musk the ceremonial “key to the White House”, hailing him for bringing “colossal change to the old ways of doing business in Washington.”
President Trump said:
We have to take some of these things apart to find the corruption. We found tremendous corruption. Thank you, Elon.
Additionally, the tribute video promoted a weighty statement from Vice President Vance regarding DOGE.
The vice president said:
That is going to do more to unleash innovation, to unleash economic prosperity, when you don’t have this crushing bureaucracy that answers to nobody, sitting on top of the American people.
Also, the tribute video incorporated a statement from White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, lending further perspective to the DOGE agenda:
