Roseanne Barr made a stupid joke on Twitter comparing former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett to The Planet of the Apes. Because she is a Trump supporter and not part of the liberal Hollywood clique, she was immediately fired from the show that bares her name. ABC decided to bring the show back without Roseanne, but it looks like it’s a real stinker and now the network executives are saying they regret their “knee jerk” reaction in firing the star.
Hollywood liberals are horrible people who sexually assault women, drop N-bombs, and spew homophobia all of the time without consequence. Roseanne on the other hand has been a vocal supporter of President Trump so she isn’t afforded the same protections against a minor slip-up. Though she apologized for her mildly racist Jarret joke, it didn’t matter, Hollywood shut her down. According to The Daily Mail, ABC is regretting it’s decision:
Top ABC brass may have acted too swiftly by pulling the plug on Roseanne – and they now fear the show’s replacement spin-off will flop without its star.
Two senior executives at the network have told DailyMailTV that firing the actress was a ‘knee-jerk’ reaction by ABC’s president and admitted that temporarily suspending Barr may have been a wiser decision.
“We didn’t think it through properly. What Roseanne did was wrong but we shouldn’t have rushed to fire her. It was almost a knee-jerk reaction by Ben [Sherwood] and Channing [Dungey] who should have launched an investigation,” one executive said.
This is still Hollywood, so this regret has nothing to do with treating Roseanne fairly and everything to do with money:
ABC is now bracing for the premiere of The Conners on October 16 which will determine whether the show can survive without its main star.
The network fears they have upset viewers by firing Barr and that fans will not watch The Conners out of loyalty to the actress.
“When we greenlit The Conners we thought that the public would tune in to see the family return but what we’ve discovered is that people want Roseanne – they don’t want the family by themselves,” said another executive.
Even ABC knows that Roseanne without Roseanne is going to suck:
“The marketing and publicity teams are horrified as no matter what promotional material is released – and let’s be honest it’s been limited for a show that launches next Tuesday – Roseanne’s fans come out in force stating that they won’t watch the show,” the executive said.
And like I said, this is all about the money:
“In the end the ratings are all that matter – and there are many people at Disney and ABC who are worried that firing Roseanne will see their Tuesday night ratings drop substantially,” said the exec. “The whisper across ABC is that they will not even be a quarter of what Roseanne achieved last season.”
Late night hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert constantly attack Trump and Republicans with homophobic slurs. Samantha Bee called Ivanka Trump a “feckless c*nt.” Bill Maher casually uses the N-word. None of these people have been fired, suspended, or even reprimanded because they are on Team Liberal. Roseanne doesn’t play for that team and made a joke that attacked a liberal, which is why she was drummed out of the industry.
I know commonsense has a hard time penetrating the liberal bubble, but maybe a few people at ABC have figured out that most of America isn’t a bunch of whacko leftists and would prefer to watch something that isn’t liberal entertainment made by liberals for liberals. I don’t don’t think they’ll do anything about it, but at least they kind of know.
