Trump About To Pull The Anchor On Birthright Citizenship

One of the many ways our flawed immigration system rewards lawlessness is with birthright citizenship. People can sneak into this country, have a baby on American soil and that child automatically becomes a US citizen. Known as “anchor babies” these illegitimate Americans make it hard to deport their illegal immigrant parents, plus these kids are suddenly eligible for all of those sweet US social programs. It’s BS and its costly, but thankfully President Trump is going to put an end to it.

Trump did an interview with Axios and the subject of anchor babies came up.

“We’re the only country in the world where a person comes in and has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States … with all of those benefits. It’s ridiculous. It’s ridiculous. And it has to end,” Trump said.

It’s unclear that we are the only country that allows this, but we’re definitely the only good country that does. The President said he’s been talking with White House legal counsel about ending birthright citizenship.

“It was always told to me that you needed a constitutional amendment. Guess what? You don’t,” said Trump.

The interviewer argued with Trump, saying that a Constitutional amendment or Congressional action was needed to stop the anchor baby madness.

“You can definitely do it with an Act of Congress. But now they’re saying I can do it just with an executive order,” counter Trump.

And that’s just what President Trump is going to do.

“It’s in the process. It’ll happen … with an executive order.”

The left sues Trump no matter what he does and this involves illegal immigration so it’s a guarantee that the ACLU, New York, California, and dozens of immigrant rights groups will file suits over this. I suspect it will eventually make it to the Supreme Court, where a more conservative bench will uphold it.

The issue is going to be the 14th Amendment, which may or may not authorize birthright citizenship. Here’s what the Constitution has to say on the matter:

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.

Liberals look at that and say it absolutely grants citizenship to the offspring of illegal immigrants born on American soil. The problem for that theory is the “subject to the jurisdiction” clause. That states very clearly that citizenship is granted to those who are born to parents who are under the protection of the US Constitution. US citizens are protected by the Constitution and so are legal non-citizens, but illegal immigrants are not. People who are present in this country without permission are not afforded Constitutional rights and are not under the jurisdiction of it.

Like I said, liberals will throw a fit and try to sue this thing into oblivion, but Trump will have a solid case for ending birthright citizenship with an executive order. Hey, if Obama can grant a de facto amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants with an executive order, Trump can sure put an end to anchor babies with one. Obama was making laws with EOs, all Trump is doing is enforcing the law, which he actually has the authority to do.

This is part of a simple commonsense approach to curbing illegal immigration without any news laws. Right now our country makes sneaking in way too attractive to third world scumbags. They know they can come here and get jobs, housing, food and medicine, and if they pop out some puppies all of that “free” stuff gets even better. If we take away their ability to mooch off the system, they will stop coming and most of the ones already here will leave. No waiting for Congress to act and no wall is needed.
