The democrats actually managed to take control of the House, which sucks, but the Republicans increased their majority in the Senate so the 2018 midterms are kind of a wash. What puts these elections over the top for the GOP is that every single democrat rockstar got nut-punched on Tuesday. All of those rising stars, darlings of the party, and Hollywood-supported candidates went down. Don’t worry, it’s a guarantee that Beto O’Rourke is running for president in 2020 so we’ll still have plenty of him to laugh at for years.
The first observation of these midterms is that every single vulnerable incumbent democratic Senator who voted against Brett Kavaluagh’s SCOTUS confirmation lost. Joe Donnelly in Indiana lost to Mike Braun. Heidi Heitkamp in North Dakota got her ass handed to her by Kevin Cramer. Claire McCaskill in Missouri was crushed by Josh Hawley. Bill Nelson in Florida lost to Rick Scott. All of these democrats voted against Kavanaugh, but Joe Manchin of West Virginia voted for him and amazingly won his reelection bid. Coincidence? I think not.
Then you have the Obama curse. The former president stumped for Donnelly, McCaskill, and Nelson as well as gubernatorial candidates Andrew Gillum and Stacey Abrams. They all lost, which is not surprising because Obama kind of specializes in costing democrats their seats.
On the flip side of that, the Republicans who President Trump campaigned for kicked ass. Trump held rallies for Braun, Cramer, and Hawley as well as gubernatorial candidates DeSantis and Kemp. They all won. Imagine that.
In the case of Andrew Gillum, the Florida candidate for governor was touted as a future leader of the Democratic Party. He’s black, he’s a socialist, and Hollywood adores him. He lead in the polls for almost the entire campaign but ended up losing to Republican Ron DeSantis.
Stacey Abrams in Georgia was an even bigger rockstar for the democrats. She is again black and liberals thought she would for sure win the governor’s office. Besides Obama, she had none other than Oprah Winfrey knocking on doors for her. She lost to Republican Brian Kemp and now liberals gots the sads.
The biggest soul-crushing defeat was Beto O’Rourke going down to Ted Cruz in Texas. Beta (male) O’Dork raised millions from Hollywood and powerful out-of-state liberals and the liberal media swooned over this guy. Though there was never a credible poll that gave him a chance, for some reason the left believed he would topple Cruz for a Senate seat. All of O’Rourke’s skateboarding, bass playing, and dabbing couldn’t save his doomed campaign as he lost convincingly to Ted Cruz.
Yes, the Republicans did lose control of the House, but it was far from the blue wave democrats promised. Most presidents lose House seats in their first midterm and Trump is no different. Bill Clinton lost 50 democrat House seats in 1994. Obama lost 67 democratic House seats in 2010. They’re still counting the votes but it looks like Trump is going to loose 30-35 Republican House seats, which isn’t quite as bad.
This democrat control of the House will be short-lived because they are idiots and will do nothing but launch ridiculous investigations against President Trump and maybe even attempt an impeachment. Come 2020 the voters are going to realize how stupid it was to hand over the keys to these infants and the GOP will once again be in charge.
