The government is currently shut down because democrats refuse to fund even modest border security. Since they are already sending a message that they don’t care about Americans’ safety, the Senate democrats piled on with a new bill that would strip us of our self-defense rights too. Dianne Feinstein introduced her new “assault weapons” ban on Wednesday and it’s actually worse than the one she got passed back in 1994. Is it weird that democrats never try to pass any legislation that actually benefits the American people?
Here’s some awful shit from the press release for The Assault Weapons Ban of 2019:
“Last year we saw tens of thousands of students nationwide take to the streets to demand action to stop mass shootings and stem the epidemic of gun violence that plagues our communities. Our youngest generation has grown up with active-shooter drills, hiding under their desks—and now they’re saying enough is enough,” said Feinstein.
The US population is 325 million. Just because 10,000 idiot high school students want something doesn’t mean that’s what the American People want. If Feinstein is going to use this small group of morons to dictate the legislation she introduces, she’s going to have to bring up some pro-vaping and Tide Pod eating bills.
“Americans across the nation are asking Congress to reinstate the federal ban on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. If we’re going to put a stop to mass shootings and protect our children, we need to get these weapons of war off our streets,” Feinstein said.
Semiautomatic rifles are not “weapons of war,” banning them won’t put a dent in violent crime, and the only way to stop mass shootings is by the elimination of gun-free zones, but besides that everything Feinstein just said was also bullshit.
To sell this assault on our Constitutional rights, Feinstein included some testimonials from her gun-hating democratic colleagues:
“Military-style assault rifles are the weapons of choice for mass murderers. There’s just no reason why these guns, which were designed to kill as many people as quickly as possible, are sold to the public,” said Senator Chris Murphy.
It seems like there are weapons designs that can kill people faster than a gun the fires a single shot every time the trigger is pulled.
“Assault weapons and high-capacity magazines are deadly and dangerous weapons of war that belong on battlefields—not our streets. They have no purpose for self-defense or hunting, and no business being in our schools, churches and malls,” said Senator Richard Blumenthal.
I’m sorry, is he actually saying that a person cannot defend his or her life with a semiautomatic rifle? Or that it’s impossible to hunt with such a weapon? I’m beginning to think that democrats may not know that much about firearms, especially the ones they are trying to ban.
Without further ado, here’s what Feinstein wants to ban:
Bans the sale, manufacture, transfer and importation of 205 military-style assault weapons by name. Owners may keep existing weapons.
Bans any assault weapon that accepts a detachable ammunition magazine and has one or more military characteristics including a pistol grip, a forward grip, a barrel shroud, a threaded barrel or a folding or telescoping stock. Owners may keep existing weapons.
Bans magazines and other ammunition feeding devices that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition, which allow shooters to quickly fire many rounds without needing to reload. Owners may keep existing magazines.
And there’s more:
Bans stocks that are “otherwise foldable or adjustable in a manner that operates to reduce the length, size, or any other dimension, or otherwise enhances the concealability of a firearm.”
Bans assault pistols that weigh 50 or more ounces when unloaded, a policy included in the original 1994 ban.
Bans assault pistol stabilizing braces that transform assault pistols into assault rifles by allowing the shooter to shoulder the weapon and fire more accurately.
Bans Thordsen-type grips and stocks that are designed to evade a ban on assault weapons.
Hang on, she’s not done yet:
Requires a background check on any future sale, trade or gifting of an assault weapon covered by the bill.
Requires that grandfathered assault weapons are stored using a secure gun storage or safety device like a trigger lock.
Prohibits the transfer of high-capacity ammunition magazines.
Bans bump-fire stocks and other devices that allow semi-automatic weapons to fire at fully automatic rates.
I think that’s it, but she may amend this to ban more arbitrary things and cosmetic features that have nothing to do with the function of weapons.
Long guns of any type including rifles, shotguns, and those make believe “assault rifles” are used in about 1% of all crime. Not 1% of murders, but 1% of crime like robbery and assault. Banning semiautomatic rifles that liberals think look scary isn’t going to do jack shit to reduce crime. It won’t save lives, but it will make people less safe against scumbags so it will likely result in taking lives.
The good news is that Feinstein’s Assault Weapons Ban of 2019 is a symbolic gesture that won’t ever come up for a vote in the Republican-controlled Seante. When she got her 1994 ban passed, democrats controlled both chambers of Congress and the White House. This time around there’s enough people in power who respect the 2nd Amendment to make this a bigger joke than Feinstein herself.
