The way gay “Empire” star Jussie Smollett tells it, he was attacked by two racist homophobic Trump-loving white guys in Chicago. I’m not saying it didn’t happen, but something seems very fishy about his account and we’ve seen too many hate crime hoaxes not be a little skeptical. You be the judge and decide if this actor really was the victim of a hate crime.
TMZ reports:
Sources directly connected to Jussie tell TMZ, the actor arrived in Chicago from New York late Monday, and at around 2 AM he was hungry and went to a Subway. We’re told when he walked out, someone yelled, “Aren’t you that f***ot ‘Empire’ n*****?”
The 2 men — both white and wearing ski masks — viciously attacked Jussie as he fought back, but they beat him badly and fractured a rib. They put a rope around his neck, poured bleach on him and as they left they yelled, “This is MAGA country.”
The Chicago PD also released a statement telling much of the same story:
Overnight the Chicago Police Department received a report of a possible racially-charged assault and battery involving a cast member of the television show Empire. Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking the investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime.
A 36 year old man was walking at the above address when two unwon offenders approached him and gained his attention by yelling out racial and homophobic slurs towards him. The offenders began to batter the victim with their hands about the face and poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim.
At some point during the incident one of the offenders wrapped a rope around the victim’s neck. The offenders fled the scene. The victim self-transported himself to Northwestern Hospital and is in good condition.
Here’s all the problems I have with this account:
Two white guys walking around Chicago at 2am? Seems unlikely.
Also, what are the chances that 2 Trump-loving “racists” would know who the hell Jussie Smollett is. I’m guessing the MAGA crowd isn’t in Empire’s demographics. How many of you reading this right now ever heard of this guy before today?
What are the chances that two white Trump-loving racists wandering around Chicago at 2am, who happen to know who Jussie Smollett, would recognize him?
What are the chances that these two guys would also just happen to have some bleach and a rope, just in case they ran into a gay actor from a show to assault?
If they were wearing ski masks, how does Jussie Smollett know they were white?
Why did these attackers, who seemed intent on killing Smollett, suddenly stop their assault and run away?
Punching a face doesn’t break a rib and a broken rib is not considered “good condition” to doctors.
Finally, the narrative reeks of hoax. Almost every hate crime hoax goes down just like this. Some white guys, either wearing MAGA hats or shouting pro-Trump slogans, attack a minority out of the blue. Every single other hate crime like this turned out to be a lie, so what are the chances this one is real?
If this assault really happened, a more likely scenario is that Smollett was out on the street at 2am in Chicago trying to score something (drugs, gay sex, etc…) and perhaps things didn’t quite work out as he had hoped. Rather than admit to what he was up to, why not blame white racist Trump supporters?
Like I said, maybe this really did happen the way Smollett says it did, but it doesn’t seem remotely plausible. This story will get a lot of traction in the liberal media because it’s an alleged hate crime that implicates President Trump. If and when it is exposed as a hoax, it won’t get one mention in the mainstream media.
