Blackface. All the current resurgence of the uproar about white people in “blackface” began in Virginia with Governor Ralph Northam, Attorney General Mark Herring, and Senate Majority Leader Tommy Norment all admitting to once wearing or, in Norment’s case, publishing a yearbook which featured blackface. And I thought that would be all, that soon the firestorm of liberal idiocy would all be over. But then came the “Mary Poppins” controversy, the Gucci sweater scandal, Katy Perry’s blackface shoes, and right when you thought the blackface outrage couldn’t get any more ridiculous than the moron that was offended by a photo of coal miners, it just did.
‘I apologise to the world for wanting clean pores!’ Twitter users face angry backlash after claiming charcoal face masks are RACIST
Twitter users have been slammed after claiming charcoal face masks are racist – with the pampering products likened to ‘blacking up’.
Some argued it was racist to don the masks but faced a backlash from others who feel they are taking it too far.
Nicole Paula Oliver tweeted: ‘Racism is so insidious that you can promote blackface for years under the guise of ‘pore mask’ and it goes unchecked.’
Eliz Bee said: ‘Charcoal masks look uncomfortably similar to black face.
‘I feel weird and will be hiding in the bathroom for 8-10 minutes.’
Why? Is your husband black and sensitive? Do you have an adopted black child who’s easily offended? For God’s sake, it’s a face mask! How is it possible for anyone to have such incomprehensible issues? You know you aren’t being racist so why does it make you feel so uncomfortable. Maybe you really are racist! Or just a friggin’ weirdo.
Ali Macofsky said: ‘White women love self care and doing casual black face with charcoal face masks.’
Janna Von Hanna also Tweeted: ‘Serious question from an ignorant state of mind: is applying charcoal face masks considered black face?’
Here’s a serious answer for you, twit . . . racist or not, I highly recommend you use one. Because if this is you . . .
. . . and I’m pretty sure it is because I got it from your Twitter page, look at your complexion! Dear Lord! A sheet of bubble wrap has less bumps than you do on your face.
Katie Labovitz added: ‘Every time I see someone on FB or IG post a picture of themself with a charcoal face mask on, I wonder why they would post that when at first glance it looks like blackface. Take care of your skin, fine. But your post still makes you look racist af.’
Gee, I don’t know why they do it either. But maybe, just maybe, it’s because it makes them look funny and some people have what is known as a self-deprecating sense of humor. You should get one. They can be a lot of fun. But since you want to be so judgmental of others, allow me to play that game as well.
I don’t know why people post pictures of themselves on Twitter when they’re in horseface. Oh wait, that’s how you always look? More’s the pity.
But one user offered a solution to use green tea face masks instead.
Logan posted: ‘I bought a black charcoal face mask once. I looked in the mirror and was like “nope that’s [sic] and immediately washed it off. Been buying green tea ones ever since.’
The face masks are used to unblock pores and are black because of the charcoal component.
The outcry comes after Gucci last week issued a public apology following a backlash against its £688 ‘balaclava’ jumper.
It featured large, bright red lips and covered half the model’s face in black.
Pop star Katy Perry was also embroiled in a blackface scandal after shoes from her self-designed collection were also accused of mimicking the stereotype.
But some Twitter users blasted the claims the charcoal face masks were racist.
Susie Mcbride posted: ‘Because using a peel off charcoal face mask for skin care isn’t racist.
‘People are taking this too far now.’
Way too far.
Nick Herman tweeted: ‘How is a charcoal face mask racist?’
Coby Ascott said on Twitter: ‘I confess I do occasionally do BlackFace when I apply a clay mask to my face.
‘I apologise to the world for wanting clean pores.
‘I will never do it again.
‘I will now go and flog myself #MySecretSkinCare #StopPickingOnMe.’
Wearing a charcoal mask isn’t very manly, Coby. But hey, to each their own. And no, it’s not racist.
This whole blackface thing is so absurd. Liberals have become so adept at seeing racism everywhere they look that people are now being labeled racists not only for cleaning their pores, but for for things they did thirty or more years ago. Harmless things. As I mentioned above people need to learn to take a joke. Blackface was not considered such a horrifically racist thing that long ago. I’d actually feel sorry for the Democrats in Virginia that kicked off this new craze and are caught up in this if they weren’t partially responsible for the current attitudes that caused it to happen. You reap what you sow.
