In the annals of crime this will go down as one of the mildest hate crimes ever committed. A white guy yelled at a black lady at a bus stop in California and was arrested. He just accepted a plea deal for 5 years in prison, which seems like a lot, but black groups including the NAACP are not satisfied, saying this was way too light of a sentence. Really? If this happened almost anywhere else in the country it wouldn’t even have been a crime. Take the 5 years and move on to the next outrage.
The Orange Country Register reports that 43-year-old Tyson Theodore Mayfield was sentenced to 5 years in prison for a 2018 hate crime conviction in Fullerton, CA. I know this is kind of confusing, but despite having a black guy name, Mayfield is in fact the white person in this case.
The story goes that Mayfield approached a pregnant black woman at a train station in Fullerton. He yelled racial slurs at her and said he was going to make her “drop her baby” whatever that means. The black woman took out some paper spray and hit Mayfield in the face, causing him to run away. She called the cops and Mayfield came back to yell some more and was arrested.
Look, Mayfield is clearly a loser but he didn’t make any kind of a real threat and didn’t touch the black woman at all. Black guys get less than 5 years for suckering punching white people and putting them in the hospital. Sometimes they don’t even get arrested despite yelling anti-white slurs during the assault. 5 years is a lot for this so-called hate crime.
And yet, as the OCR reports, groups like the NAACP are pissed that he only got a nickel in prison. Apparently Mayfield actually faced 38 years behind bars, which is crazy. The prosecutor and victim are also pissed the judge let this guy off so lightly.
The case drew the personal attention of Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer, who along with several senior members of his staff attended a pair of hearings in recent weeks opposing the offers presented to Mayfield by Orange County Superior Court Judge Roger B Robbins. The judge initially offered Mayfield two years behind bars, Spitzer said, before upping it to five years in prison, a sentence prosecutors still say is too light.
“I had to literally run for my life and the life of my unborn child when I was eight months pregnant. I feel he should be in prison for a very long time,” said the victim.
The 5-year sentence could actually be due to the fact that Mayfield is a repeat offender:
It was the latest in a string of violent incidents carried out by Mayfield. According to court records, in 2005 Mayfield stabbed a man in the face in Orange, the same year punched a man at a gas station after approaching a couple asking for change and, in 2017, pummeled a man in Fullerton after asking for a lighter.
Okay, maybe 5 years isn’t that nuts. This guy is a serial piece of shit, but this definitely doesn’t make a lick of sense:
Mayfield appeared to choose his victims based on the color of their skinny and attacked with no provocation.
What color is skinny? Is this guy really a fat shamer? That kind of makes sense that he was yelling at a pregnant woman. Maybe he thought she needed to do so sit-ups or something.
Everyone should just be happy that this douche is sitting in the cell for the next 5 years, but we all know the NAACP is never satisfied with shit like this.
