And just like that, a new media star has been born…
On Saturday, Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) became the latest hero of the resistance when he became the first member of the House GOP to cross lines and join up with Democrats who are chafing at the bit to impeach President Trump.
The 39-year-old congressman is a nominal Republican who has often identified himself as a libertarian and with his eye possibly on getting attention to promote a third-party presidential run, Amash took to Twitter to unleash a diatribe against AG William Barr and to proclaim that Trump has engaged in “impeachable conduct” much to the delight of the media.
Here are my principal conclusions:
1. Attorney General Barr has deliberately misrepresented Mueller’s report.
2. President Trump has engaged in impeachable conduct.
3. Partisanship has eroded our system of checks and balances.
4. Few members of Congress have read the report.— Justin Amash (@justinamash) May 18, 2019
By going rogue, Amash has just breathed new life into the impeachment effort at the same time that “weirdo” far-left billionaire Tom Steyer has released a video designed to shame Nancy Pelosi and other fence-sitters into joining up with the lynch mob.
While Amash was being hailed for his courage by the Trump-hating media as well as Dems who before yesterday wouldn’t have pissed on him if he was on fire, he got the attention of the target of the still percolating coup when the POTUS trained his weaponized Twitter feed on the “total lightweight” who he called out for a publicity stunt that is playing right into the hands of the enemy.
….he would see that it was nevertheless strong on NO COLLUSION and, ultimately, NO OBSTRUCTION…Anyway, how do you Obstruct when there is no crime and, in fact, the crimes were committed by the other side? Justin is a loser who sadly plays right into our opponents hands!

Via The Hill, “Trump fires back at ‘loser’ GOP lawmaker who said he’d engaged in ‘impeachable conduct'”:
President Trump on Sunday ripped Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) for saying that the president had reached the “threshold for impeachment,” accusing the conservative lawmaker of leveling the charge “for the sake of getting his name out there through controversy.”
“Never a fan of @justinamash, a total lightweight who opposes me and some of our great Republican ideas and policies just for the sake of getting his name out there through controversy,” Trump said on Twitter.
Trump added that Amash would see that he was misguided if he “actually read the biased” report put together by special counsel Robert Mueller.
“He would see that it was nevertheless strong on NO COLLUSION and, ultimately, NO OBSTRUCTION,” Trump said. “Anyway, how do you Obstruct when there is no crime and, in fact, the crimes were committed by the other side? Justin is a loser who sadly plays right into our opponents hands!”
Like his Democrat allies who have suddenly developed a keen interest in a document that they have always had great contempt for, Amash wrapped his naked ambition in the U.S. Constitution which in this case could be described as the last refuge of a scoundrel.
America’s institutions depend on officials to uphold both the rules and spirit of our constitutional system even when to do so is personally inconvenient or yields a politically unfavorable outcome. Our Constitution is brilliant and awesome; it deserves a government to match it.

The Trump hate machine in the media can probably be forgiven for acting like travelers stranded in a desert without water suddenly seeing an oasis thanks to the turncoat Amash but alas, it’s only another mirage.
Flush with anticipation that the witch hunt can be dispensed with and the witch burning started, the Sunday morning shows are tittering with heightened expectations and childlike glee.
Unfortunately for them, a normally staunch ally in the war on Trump threw a bucket of cold water on the impeachment mob when none other than Mitt Romney tamped down the excitement to the sound of breaking hearts all across the political left.
Breaking with @justinamash, @MittRomney says that a case for obstruction, or even impeachment, "just isn't there." pic.twitter.com/mPj0k8hekG

Translation: don’t look for a stampede over to the Democrat side following Amash who while successfully getting a lot of attention, may have just torched his future in his own party.
Hey, there is always more room in the Democrat clown car for another candidate…
