Body Cam Theater! Today’s Episode: “I Guess You Don’t Really Have to Shoot Zombies in the Head”

Popular culture would have us believe that only a headshot can kill a zombie. I’m about to lay that myth to rest. In the book and biopic “The Dirt” about Motley Crue’s depraved exploits in the 80’s Tommy Lee mentions Nikki Sixx and himself ingesting a mixture of drugs called “zombie dust.” It’s a mixture of Halcion and cocaine which, according to Lee, ” keeps body awake but shuts brain off.”

A thugette in Gurnee Illinois recently tried that mixture with a slight twist. She subbed a Klonopin for the Halcion (which is just a different benzodiazepine) then added fentanyl and a rifle to the mix. Then she began wandering aimlessly down a highway much like a Zombie in “The Walking Dead.” Only this zombie was armed. Needless to say, things didn’t end well for her.

Bodycam Footage From Route 41 Standoff, Shooting Released

GURNEE, IL — Bodycam footage from an officer-involved shooting on Route 41 last May shows Gurnee Police Department officers trying for several minutes to calm a woman armed with a military-style rifle before two officers fired several shots at her. The woman, Makell Meyerin, 31, of Antioch, was walking down the southbound lanes of Route 41 with a Beretta Cx4 Storm tactical carbine when she was shot by Sgt. Jon Ward and Officer Benjamin Bozer.

Makell Meyerin. Eric Cartman was right. Gingers have no souls.

The officers have been cleared of any wrongdoing in the shooting, which occurred on May 23, 2018, on Route 41 north of Grand Avenue.

The bodycam footage obtained by Lake and McHenry County Scanner show officers tried for several minutes prior to the shooting to get Meyerin to put her gun down.

“No one wants to hurt you, put the gun down. You’re not in trouble,” one officer could be heard saying as they try to pacify the woman, and used words like, “honey,” and “sweetie,” when addressing her. At one point, the woman pointed the gun to her chin. Several officers could be heard repeatedly warning Meyerin not to come any closer.

It took several minutes before the southbound lanes of traffic were closed off during the standoff, which happened during the afternoon hours. Several cars passed by as an armed Meyerin walked up and down the highway. At one point, a vehicle stopped in front of Meyerin and had to back up before it accelerated past her.

After she was shot, Meyerin was rushed to Advocate Condell Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 2:33 p.m.

Autopsy results revealed she died of multiple gunshot wounds to her leg and torso.

See? No head shots! Zombie myth busted and life lesson reinforced; don’t point firearms at police.

But at least she had a nice party before she left this world. Look at all the drugs they found in her system!

Toxicology results showed Meyerin had the following drugs in her system: opiates, cocaine, benzodiazepines, fentanyl/metabolites, naloxone, clonazepam and benzoylecgonine, according to a report from Lake County State’s Attorney Mike Nerheim.

That’s quite a mix! While I’m sure we all know what opiates and cocaine are, in case some of these others are unfamiliar to you, I’ll fill you in. Benzodiazepines (aka benzos) are basically sedatives. Think Xanax or Valium. Those are ones that pretty much everyone knows. They can be used for treating anxiety, seizures, insomnia, panic attacks, alcohol withdrawal, etc. Clonazepam (aka Klonopin) is a benzo so I’m not sure why they listed it specifically.

Likewise, fentanyl/metabolites and benzoylecgonine are what they test for to detect fentanyl and cocaine in a users system so I’m not sure why they listed those as well.

What’s interesting to me is that they detected naloxone. It’s an antidote for people who have overdosed on opioids. That includes fentanyl. So it’s a pretty sure bet that this thugette had OD’ed fairly recently on fentanyl and needed to be revived by someone before all this happened.

Bottom line, don’t do drugs. Especially don’t mix all these drugs together. Bad stuff can happen and usually does. Here it is. Skip to about 7:50 in to get to the shooting.

How did this all start?

. . . the series of events that ended with the Wednesday afternoon shooting of Makell Meyerin, 31 of Antioch, began when Antioch police attempted to stop a vehicle related to complaints about unwanted solicitors and it rammed an Antioch police car and eluded police.

According to Covelli, Huff was the driver of that car, which was shortly afterward spotted driving erratically on Route 83 before it parked at an apartment home in the village. Police said a woman went inside an apartment, while a man and woman believed to be Huff and Meyerin fled the area on foot and eventually got a vehicle from one of Huff’s relatives.

After an hours-long standoff, a man and woman inside the apartment were taken into custody without further incident. Covelli said the woman was not charged. The man taken into custody at the Antioch Township apartment was also released without charges, and Covelli said while it had been the man’s vehicle that hit the squad, he was not in the car at the time.

The Chicago Tribune states that, “The Gurnee confrontation started Wednesday afternoon when someone called 911 dispatch to report a suspicious car with a bullet hole in it at the corner of Harper Avenue and Gould Street.

Officers arrived to find Huff unconscious inside, and an ambulance was called to the scene. However, Meyerin then drove off and hit a Gurnee Fire Department vehicle arriving at the scene, and then crashed the vehicle into some trees at Chittenden Park about six blocks away, according to reports. She then fled on foot onto Route 41.

This is the thug named Huff who is referenced in the article.

Meh.

Jordan Huff, 37, of Antioch Township, faces felony charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding and criminal damage to state property, and misdemeanor charges of resisting a peace officer.

And of course Meyerin was no angel previous to these events either. “Although it is unrelated to the shooting, there was an active arrest warrant for Meyerin in regard to charges lodged against her earlier this year, including theft and possession of a controlled substance, according to the state’s attorney’s office.”

Check out this fucked up shit:

In 2013, both Huff and Meyerin were charged and convicted of damage to 10 or more gravestones and sentenced to differing periods of incarceration, according to the State’s Attorney’s Office and Circuit Court Clerk files.

A 2013 story in the News-Sun said both were arrested in June of that year following vandalism discovered at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park in Zion.

According to officials at the time, Huff and Meyerin were arrested after they were caught on surveillance camera removing bronze vases from burial plots.

The story reported that hundreds of the inverted vases, which can be pulled up from underground to hold floral bouquets, had been taken from the cemetery at 1436 Kenosha Road, leaving in-ground monuments with “holes the size of softballs.”

At the time, the treasurer at Mt. Olivet had said “grave robbery” had become an epidemic since 2009, with brass and other materials being sold for scrap.

Let’s hope thugette Meyerin is buried in lieu of cremation so karma can reach out and desecrate her grave like she did to so many others.
