Democrats have once again rolled out some Trump-specific legislation that has no chance of passing. This time around they want to be able charge the President with a federal crime when ever he hurts the feelings of journalists by calling them “fake news.” Making this even dumber, this joke bill is a knee-jerk reaction to a video meme that President Trump had absolutely nothing to do with. I wonder why democrats’ constituents don’t seem to care that their representatives spend all of their time on silly crap like this instead of important issues that impact the lives of people.
Over the weekend a video meme appeared and set the left off completely. It took the church shooting scene from the film Kingsman: The Secret Service and superimposed Trump’s head over the shooter. The victims were then superimposed with fake news media logos and anti-Trump crusaders as they were ripped to shreds. President Trump had nothing to do with the video, didn’t share it on social media, and condemned it.
Democrats however blame Trump completely for this video, which they say puts the lives of journalists in jeopardy. Minutes later, Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal announced he was going to introduce a bill that would make it a federal crime to meme about journalists.
The Hill reports:
Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) said Tuesday he plans to introduce legislation that would make threats and attacks against news organizations a federal crime.
“What we have to address is the continuing threat of physical violence, whether by guns or other means, against the press that may intimidate them in their vital newsgathering operation,” said Blumenthal.
Does this mean Blumenthal is going to go after Joe Biden? The former VP sent a letter threatening the all of the TV news executives to cover him more favorably. Or wait, this is a bill from a democrat, so obviously it can’t be used against other democrats.
“It is a priority for me to protect newsgathering operations no matter what their form and the act that we’re proposing would in fact establish a federal crime when someone threatens or attacks anyone doing fact-gathering or news operations. That is the purpose of this bill,” Blumenthal said.
No, the purpose of the bill is to criminalize President Trump’s 1st Amendment right to call out the fake news industry when they lie. Chances are the democrats’ 2nd coup attempt with the Ukraine quid pro quo nonsense is going to fail even more spectacularly than the Russian collusion witch hunt and they need a back up plan. Obviously Trump is going to win reelection so they want to be able to impeach him for saying mean things to those “brave” liberal media liars.
As proof this legislation is aimed squarely at one person, Donald Trump, it’s already illegal to threaten and/or attack people. There isn’t one state, county, city, or unincorporated area in the country where it isn’t already a crime to threaten or harm a person. This law is redundant on the surface, but it serves the purpose of making Trump a criminal so devious democrats can once again try to undo the will of the American people and remove the President from office.
This bill is unnecessary and vindictive, but we could use a law to make it a federal crime to misrepresent military service. Like say if someone pretended that they served in combat during the Vietnam War when they were actually stationed in the U.S. that person wouldn’t be allowed to hold elected office. Richard Blumenthal seems like the right guy to introduce that piece of legislation.
