Is Democracy a Dying Species?

How does a democracy that has spawned within itself a powerful and implacable enemy deal with it?

What happens when democracy fails to deliver? What happens when people give up on democracy?

What happens when a majority or militant minority decide that the constitutional rights of free speech, free elections, peaceful assembly and petition are inadequate and take to the streets to force democracy to submit to their demands?

Our world may be about to find out.

Chile is the most stable and prosperous country in Latin America.

Yet when its capital, Santiago, recently raised subway fares by 5%, thousands poured into the streets. Rioting, looting, arson followed. The Metro system was utterly trashed. Police were assaulted. People died. The rioting spread to six other cities. Troops were called out.

President a Sebastian Pinera repealed the fare hike and declared a national emergency, stating, “Chile is at war against a powerful, implacable enemy who does not respect anything or anyone and is willing to use violence and crime without any limits.”

How does a democracy that has spawned within itself a powerful and implacable enemy deal with it?

Who is William Taylor? Impeachment Star Witness Has Long Relationship with Burisma-Backed Think Tank

U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bill Taylor, who provided key testimony to the Democrats’ controversial impeachment inquiry yesterday, has evidenced a close relationship with the Atlantic Council think tank, even writing Ukraine policy pieces with the organization’s director and analysis articles published by the Council.
The Atlantic Council is funded by and works in partnership with Burisma, the natural gas company at the center of allegations regarding Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.

In addition to a direct relationship with the Atlantic Council, Taylor for the last nine years also served as a senior adviser to the U.S.-Ukraine Business Council (USUBC), which has co-hosted events with the Atlantic Council and has participated in events co-hosted jointly by the Atlantic Council and Burisma.

Another senior adviser to the USUBC is David J. Kramer, a long-time adviser to late Senator John McCain. Kramer played a central role in disseminating the anti-Trump dossier to the news media and Obama administration. Taylor participated in events and initiatives organized by Kramer.

The links may be particularly instructive after Breitbart News reported that itinerary for a trip to Ukraine in August organized by the Burisma-funded Atlantic Council for ten Congressional aides reveals that a staffer on Rep. Adam Schiff’s House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence held a meeting during the trip with Taylor. The pre-planned trip took place after the so-called whistleblower officially filed his August 12 complaint and reportedly after a Schiff aide was contacted by the so-called whistleblower.

Multiple U.S. media outlets yesterday obtained Taylor’s full opening statement to the House Intelligence, Oversight and Foreign Affairs committees.

In the leaked pre-written full opening statement, Taylor alluded to work he said he did for a “small Ukrainian non- governmental organization” but he omitted the name of the organization.

Democrats Attack Mark Zuckerberg For ‘Ruined Lives’ Of African Americans

In a Congressional hearing meant to discuss Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s plans for “Libra,” a digital currency, two Democratic Congress members attacked Zuckerberg for Facebook’s alleged racism.

Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Ohio, claimed Zuckerberg and Facebook have ruined the lives of many African-Americans, and berated Zuckerberg for not knowing the intricacies of Facebook’s Civil Rights task force.

“This is what’s so frustrating to me, it’s almost like you think this is a joke. When you have ruined the lives of many people, discriminated against them. Do you know what percentage of African Americans are on Facebook, in comparison to majority folks? Do you know what the percentages are?” Beatty asked.

Zuckerberg responded that he did not know because Facebook allegedly does not collect the races of people using the social networking site.

Beatty claimed Zuckerberg probably doesn’t read things that have to do with African Americans.

Sex Offenders Sue Georgia Sheriff for Placing ‘No Trick-or-Treat’ Signs on their Property

Looking to protect young children from convicted sex offenders, a Georgia sheriff had his deputies place signs on the lawns of sexual predators, warning children and parents not to trick-or-treat at the house.

Upset that they were exposed by the sheriff, several of the felons have filed a suit, saying that the signs violated their rights to free speech and privacy.

The names and addresses of local sex offenders are already listed on several internet sites in addition to being posted at the sheriff’s office. Why the perverts believe they have a right to privacy when anyone can access their information that’s freely and easily available doesn’t make sense.

Fox News:

The initiative began in 2018 when Butts County Sheriff Gary Long directed deputies to place “Warning! No Trick-or-Treat at this address!!” signs in the front yards of over 200 sex offenders registered in the county from Oct. 24-Nov. 2. The sheriff’s office plans to use the same tactic again this year, and three registered sex offenders have filed suit.
In a Facebook post, Sheriff Gary Long said he had instituted the signs as a result of the cancellation of a local Halloween festival, “Halloween on the Square,” and the subsequent influx of door-to-door trick-or-treaters. He said they had been following Georgia law and protecting children when they implemented the public warnings.

The lawyer for the sex offenders, Mark Yurachek, told Fox News, “The law allows the sheriff to put a list of registered sex offenders at his office, at the courthouse, on the internet. It does not allow him to go door-to-door telling people you have a sex offender living next door to you.”

Hillary Clinton Accidentally Posts Condolences For Tulsi Gabbard’s Suicide One Day Early

U.S.—Oops! A social media scheduling error apparently caused Hillary Clinton to post her condolences for Tulsi Gabbard’s suicide one day early.

This morning, Clinton posted that she felt “great sadness” at hearing that Gabbard had killed herself. In subsequent tweets, she detailed how “tragic” it was that Gabbard had broken her own kneecaps, stuck her feet in concrete, then tossed herself off the docks near a seedy warehouse.

“It’s just terrible what happened, and though we disagreed, I hope we can all take a few minutes to send thoughts and prayers to the family,” Clinton concluded.

The post was deleted several hours later after the Clinton team realized it was scheduled for October 23, not October 24 as originally intended.

At publishing time, Clinton had accidentally posted early condolences for the unfortunate suicide of the social media manager who had OK’d the post and subsequently posted more condolences for the new social media manager, etc.
