In a very Nancy Pelosi moment, the House Speaker claimed she is under no legal obligation to form an official impeachment inquiry against President Trump, right before she announced the House will vote to establish a formal impeachment inquiry. In another very Nancy Pelosi moment, this is a complete lie because the democrats are only voting on a resolution, not the establishment of an impeachment inquiry committee. This is Pelosi playing tiddlywinks against Trump’s three-dimensional chess.
Based on the latest democrat-concocted lie that Trump withhold foreign aid to the Ukraine in exchange for an investigation into Joe Biden’s crooked son, House democrats began what they called an impeachment inquiry but did it using existing committees like Intelligence and Oversight. Trump has agreed, and righty so, that the inquiry lacks legitimacy because the House didn’t establish a specific impeachment committee, has been conducting this ruse in secret, and denied the President due process.
Pelosi thinks she’s putting one over on Trump with this:
The Committee on Rules will meet on Wednesday, October 30th at 3:00 PM ET to mark up a resolution from Chairman @RepMcGovern ensuring transparency & providing a clear path forward as the House prepares for the public phase of the #impeachment inquiry. pic.twitter.com/dp4GvO9DlU

As you can see the House Rules Committee says they will be voting on this resolution on Wednesday, but Pelosi told democrats the vote will be on Thursday. These people really have their shit together, don’t they?
In a letter to House democrats Pelosi she doesn’t have to formalize the impeachment process:
For weeks, the President, his Counsel in the White House, and his allies in Congress have made the baseless claim that the House of Representatives’ impeachment inquiry “lacks the necessary authorization for a valid impeachment proceeding.” They argue that, because the House has not taken a vote, they may simply pretend the impeachment inquiry does not exist.
Of course, this argument has no merit. The Constitution provides that the House of Representatives “shall have the sole Power of Impeachment.” Multiple past impeachments have gone forward without any authorizing resolutions. Just last week, a federal court confirmed that the House is not required to hold a vote and that imposing such a requirement would be “an impermissible intrusion on the House’s constitutional authority.” More than 300 legal scholars have also refuted this argument, concluding that “the Constitution does not mandate the process for impeachment and there is no constitutional requirement that the House of Representatives authorize an impeachment inquiry before one begins.”
That being said, Pelosi is going to hold a vote anyways because…why not?:
This week, we will bring a resolution to the Floor that affirms the ongoing, existing investigation that is currently being conducted by our committees as part of this impeachment inquiry, including all requests for documents, subpoenas for records and testimony, and any other investigative steps previously taken or to be taken as part of this investigation.
We are taking this step to eliminate any doubt as to whether the Trump Administration may withhold documents, prevent witness testimony, disregard duly authorized subpoenas, or continue obstructing the House of Representatives.
Pelosi added, “Nobody is above the law.” Has she met the Clintons because they sure seem like they are above the law.
This is kind of like when Dean Wormer put Delta house on “double secret probation.” It’s completely meaningless.
A House resolution is the closest thing to nothing humanly possible. This resolution is not law, or a rule, or anything. It doesn’t establish an official impeachment inquiry because it doesn’t establish an impeachment committee. Whatever Trump’s argument was before about the legitimacy of this farce will still stand after the straight party-line vote.
The only thing this vote really does is put democrats in swing districts at risk for having to go on the record supporting this democratic party coup attempt. Trump dared Pelosi to do this and she took the bait. Check and mate, tiddlywinker.
I sincerely hope Trump uses his ceremonial powers to counter this empty gesture from the House democrats. I’d like to see him issue a Presidential Proclamation that Nancy Pelosi is a psychotic Botox disaster and Adam Schiff is a pencil-necked lair who leaks too much.
Democrats want a show? Donald Trump is the show.
