They aren’t getting much attention but some prominent liberals are warning that if the Democrats continue their embrace of far-left socialist ideas that they could be in for an electoral beatdown of historic proportions next year.
It’s no exaggeration to say that Democrats have completely lost their minds since President Trump stunned the unbeatable Hillary Clinton and when combined with a lack of leadership, they have been lured by the false promises of socialism which is alien to America.
In saner times, raving cranks like Bernie Sanders were fringe characters whose loony ideas were the subject of shunning and mockery and they never appeared on national television let alone a CNN town hall or NBC’s flagship Meet The Press.
But 2019 is not one of those times and the collective insanity that has found a home in the Democratic party where the geriatric demagogue isn’t even the craziest or most influential character – that honor belongs to the 29-year-old bartender who in less than a year, has become the most influential member of Congress.
The media may adore Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who they have made into a superstar along the lines of Lady Gaga or a young Madonna but sane observers and more importantly, swing voters are mortified by the influence that the temperamental Twitter diva holds over the rest of the party.
Radical transformative schemes like the Green New Deal, free everything for everyone and the glorification of a culture of ignorance may be mother’s milk to the Trump-hating left but they may be a recipe for disaster come next November unless control of the asylum is wrested back from the lunatics.
MSNBC’s slobbering blowhard Chris Matthews isn’t the person who one can expect reasonable statements from but the Hardball host is clearly spooked by the socialists and is warning of a nasty surprise that would inflict even more mental damage on those who were driven over the edge when Mrs. Clinton’s dreams imploded.
Matthews is suggesting that Dems could be in for the type of coast-to-coast ass-whupping that they received when the party ran George McGovern for president back in 1972.

Matthews began by wondering if the Democratic Party’s nominee “supports the key progressive issues of today, getting rid of the electoral college, increasing the size of the U.S. Supreme Court, creating a government-run, national health system, paying a significant chunk of college tuition, liberalizing abortion laws, especially late in term and presenting immigration policies that would allow interpretation as open borders.”
“How will this choice strike the voters in such electoral swing states as Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio, even Virginia and North Carolina,” Matthews astutely wondered.
The MSNBC pundit continued to make even more sense when he observed that it’s become “hard is to identify a leading candidate that is resisting the move to the left” since all of them “seem determined to hold their own among those young, strongly progressive, often minority voters expected to make up the voting base in the early states.”
Showing his age, Matthews noted the case of Democrats in 1972 when “the party went hard to the left” with George McGovern. Even though “[e]veryone enjoyed themselves,” the election didn’t pan out as McGovern lost 49 states to Richard Nixon, who took “60 percent of the popular vote.”

In 1972 following the tumultuous decade that saw America ablaze at home and mired in Vietnam abroad, the latter driving the ideological forebears of the Bernie-bots to spit on returning soldiers, the Democrats selected the peacenik senator from South Dakota as their nominee.
Republicans and those who were pro-American wasted little time in defining McGovern as the candidate for “acid, amnesty and abortion” and when the “silent majority” spoke on election day, the Democrats woke up on the day after the election in a body bag.
Richard M. Nixon steamrolled McGovern in every state but ultra-liberal Massachusetts and the District Of Columbia for an astounding 520-17 victory in the hated Electoral College. Nixon also carried the popular vote and it took Democrats decades to fully recover.
Ironically, if the Democrats keep it up then they may be waking up to a ‘Red Dawn’ on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, only they won’t be dancing to the happy beat of The Internationale.
