When the House of Representatives impeached President Trump, only democrats and one independent voted for it, while no Republicans voted for it, which is another way of saying it was a strictly partisan vote. Joe Biden is on record in the past saying that no president should be impeached on a partisan vote, but now according to the former VP Trump can be impeached on a partisan vote because this particular partisan vote was somehow nonpartisan.
For some strange reason ABC’s George Stephanopoulos decided to call out Biden’s glaring hypocrisy in a Friday interview. The host played a clip of Biden, then a Senator, from the 1998 Bill Clinton impeachment proceedings:
“It would have wrong to remove Richard Nixon from office based upon a purely partisan vote. No president should be removed from office, merely because one party enjoys a commanding lead in either House of Congress,” said Biden at the time.
But clearly Biden has ‘evolved” on this issue since it isn’t someone from his party being impeached, so Stephanopoulos wanted to know “wut up wif dat?”
“If a partisan impeachment was wrong in 1974, wrong in 1998, why isn’t it wrong now?” Stephanopoulos asked.
Get ready for it:
“Because it’s not a partisan impeachment,” Biden said.
Huh? Even Stephanopoulos went “huh?”
“Only democrats voted for it in the House and one independent,” Stephanopoulos pointed out.
Get ready for another one:
“Well, that doesn’t mean that the facts — the underlying facts, George, whether the Constitution has been violated. That that’s the issue. Zats zee issue. Was the Constitution violated?” asked Biden, briefly becoming French.
That’s about as incoherent of a non-answer as is humanly possibly. Biden didn’t explain how he suddenly thinks a president can be removed on a purely partisan vote, nor did he explain how a purely partisan vote is actually nonpartisan. He did kind of use a French accent however, so maybe he thinks he was classing his bullshit up a bit.
Stephanopoulos tried to switch things up a bit and asked, “Even if it’s a party line vote?”
And here comes some more rambling:
“Even if it’s a party line vote, it just goes — reflects on those who know, in fact, in their heart and their head that, in fact, it’s a violation of the Constitution to do what he did and, in fact, vote no.”
He used the phrase “in fact” 3 times in one sentence, which is a pretty good indication that even he doesn’t believe the crap coming out of his mouth. Then, like someone with Tourettes, Biden was triggered by “party line” and that’s all he could say.
“That party line vote, but that doesn’t make it right, and a party line vote based upon something that doesn’t relate to a constitutional violation is a different thing,” said Biden.
When they came up with the term “word salad” this is what they were talking about. He literally just strung a bunch of words together, completely unrelated to the question asked of him and drooled it out through his loose dentures.
What I think Biden was trying to say is that a partisan impeachment is nonpartisan if the President is accused of violating the Constitution. That makes no sense on its face and even less sense when you consider President Trump wasn’t impeached for violating the Constitution and violating the Constitution isn’t even a Constitutional reason for impeachment.
What I know Biden was saying is that he’s an old guy who gets confused a lot and is completely full of shit.
