When he’s not trying to destroy our Constitutional rights, democrat Chris Murphy likes to dabble in undermining the President’s foreign policy by illegally negotiating with our enemies. The U.S. Senator form Connecticut recently held a secret meeting with Iran Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. WT actual F? While the democrats were trying desperately to accuse President Trump of betraying our country, this is an a literal example of treason and a clear violation of the Logan Act.
The Federalist, and nobody form the liberal media, reported this yesterday:
Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut and other Democratic senators had a secret meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif during the Munich Security Conference last week, according to a source briefed by the French delegation to the conference. Murphy’s office did not respond to repeated requests for comment by press time.
A State Department official who spoke on background said that the State Department was not aware of any side meetings with Iranian officials that Murphy was engaged in.
Since this is highly inappropriate and Murphy was busted, he issued a statement on Twitter trying to explain his treasonous actions:

2/ First, I urged him to control any Iranian proxies in Iraq who might attack U.S. forces and allies there.
Second, I pressed him to release American citizens being unlawfully detained in Iran.
Third, I pushed him to end the Houthi blockage of humanitarian aid in Yemen.

3/ Congress is a co-equal branch to the executive. We set foreign policy too. Many of us have met w Zarif over the years, under Obama and Trump. So though no one in Congress can negotiate with Zarif or carry official U.S. government messages, there is value in having a dialogue.

In a subsequent Medium post, Murphy admits that he met Zarif “in his hotel suite” “after sunset” which sounds as shady as it is. He also admitted to engaging in negotiations with the Iranian Foreign Minister:
“I think it’s dangerous to not talk to your enemies. Discussions and negotiations are a way to ease tensions and reduce the chances for crisis,” wrote Murphy.
Who exactly authorized the junior Senator from the minority party to negotiate deals with Iran on America’s behalf?
I refer you to the Logan Act:
Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.
Chris Murphy is a United States citizen who doesn’t have authorization to negotiate with a foreign government which has an on-going dispute with our country. There’s definitely an on-going dispute between the U.S. and Iran and Murphy admitted to trying to influence measures of that dispute:
“I want to gauge whether he thinks the reprisals for the Soleimani assassination are over.”
“I want his help in Yemen.”
“Lastly, I raise the issue of American prisoners held in Iran.”
Murphy also admitted that his meeting was an attempt to open a, “diplomatic channel between America and Iran.”
This meeting also falls into treason territory if Murphy made any promises to Zarif with regards to easing sanctions against Iran. What are the chances there is a transcript of this clandestine meeting or that Murphy would release it?
Republicans in the Senate certainly have an awful lot of democratic party chicanery to investigate, but hopeful they will add Chris Murphy’s illegal meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister to the docket. This guy should be in jail for what he admitted to and an investigation might bring him to the gallows.
