Joe Biden has a history of terrible advise for self-defense like telling people to fire a shotgun in the air to scare off home invaders. For the record, 2 people have been convicted of following this advice. Now, Biden has moved on to advising police officers to shoot unarmed people with knives in the leg. Wait. What? If the person has a knife that, by the very definition, means he or she is armed. I would advise police officers to ignore Crazy Joe’s advice.
Biden gave a masked speech at a black church in Wilmington, Delaware. He started things off by saying that cops should have a relationship with business owners in the black community. He then started to list off the different kinds of businesses one might find in a black community but could only come up with “liquor store.” There’s nothing racist about that because Joe is a democrat.
Biden looked and sounded like he just woke up from a nap when he announced, “And uh I am uh I know I’m gonna make mistakes.”
And he uh wasn’t uh kidding:

“The idea that instead of standing there and teaching a cop when there’s an unarmed person coming at ‘em with a knife or something, shoot ‘em in the leg instead of the heart is a very different thing. There’s a lot of different things that can change,” said Biden.
There’s an awful to of stupid in that short piece of advice but Biden has been honing his skills for nearly a century. The first and most obvious problem with this is that if someone is holding a knife or any weapon, they’re aren’t “unarmed” but rather “armed.” Being armed means that a person is bearing arms, as in a weapon and a knife is a weapon.
The next problem is, when a cop or anyone is defending themselves from a charging armed attacker, the best possible thing to do is aim for the largest part of the body, which is the torso. It’s called shooting at “center mass” and it’s not only the best way to land a shot but also to stop the threat.
Shooting at legs, especially on a person running at you, is a low-percentage shot. If you miss, you are probably getting stabbed and/or disarmed, in which case your gun will be used against you. Another thing to consider is, you do not want your shots going anywhere but into the bad guy. Shooting at the legs could send bullets into innocent people.
Also, real life is much different than the movies. A leg wound, especially if an artery is hit, can be just as fatal as a torso shot. I garauntee if someone gets popped in the leg with a .357 hollow point, they will bleed out and die in a minute, mostly because they’d be missing a leg. In the movies, people get shot in the leg, say “ouch,” and then walk with a slight limp for the rest of the action sequence. Reality is much different.
Biden’s advice, like everything else that comes out of his mouth, is shit. I however have some great advice for black people who would like to avoid getting shot by a cop: Don’t run at a police officer with a knife in your hand.
And that’s the biggest problem with what Shotgun Joe said: He starts with the premise that black people can’t stop themselves from running at cops with weapons and somehow thinks it’s a police problem, not a thug problem. Cops should defend themselves. Black people shouldn’t attack cops with weapons.
